Summary:
The Health Program Officer will support the Health Program Manager with the development and implementation of IsraAID’s Health project in Malawi, responding to the Cholera outbreak and Tropical Cyclone Freddy, as we are shifting from Emergency Response to Early Recovery and Resilience building development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
The Health Program Officer will provide technical support to the implementation and running of the Health Program in Malawi. They will contribute to the organization’s strategic positioning in the country while ensuring it is context-appropriate, has a cross-sectoral approach, and is in line with the do-no-harm policy of IsraAID’s Health Sector.
Specific Responsablities
- In coordination with the Head of Mission and the Health Program Manager support IsraAID’s strategy in Malawi in the health sector according to the national and global strategy of IsraAID
- Ensuring the quality of health and nutrition projects are in line with IsraAID’s minimum criteria and in line with global guidelines
- Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of all Health activities
- In coordination with the MEAL officer, develop and ensure the execution of project monitoring in the health and nutrition projects
- Support the formulation of project proposals for internal and external donors
- Work with local partners to ensure appropriate, timely and accurate data collection against agreed indicators to enable both internal and external reporting
- Lead RCCE discussions with communities and beneficiaries on program design
Reporting
- In coordination with the Health Program Manager, produce quality reports to ensure accurate, coherent and timely reporting in coordination meetings
- Assist the District Health Office in data collection
- Continue regular communication with Head of Mission, the Health Program Manager, and other field staff
- Liaise with Head of Health sector, Health Program Manager, and other relevant non-Country staff
- Any other tasks as delegated by the Head of Mission
Representation and Advocacy
- Support participation in Health Cluster meetings, relevant Health Working Groups, and coordination meetings
- Support the Health Program Manager with external stakeholders, including humanitarian partners, donors, authorities, etc.
Required Experience, Competencies and Skills
- Relevant university degree in Health Sciences (MD/MPH/RN)
- Minimum 2 years progressive experience in the Health sector with an INGO and/or UN agency
- Proven experience in health programs in line with MoH and WHO/UNICEF/UNFPA
- Knowledge and skills working with local communities and RCCE tools
- Proficiency in English and Chichewa
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and project management tools
- A hands-on approach, including frequent travel to field and project locations
