Bahar Organization is an independent non-profit and non-governmental organization that provides humanitarian aid to vulnerable people without any discrimination in all its forms. BO is operating to respond to the needs and basic requirements of the humanitarian crisis in Syria in the middle of the affected communities caused by the conflict the basic principles of BO’s activities are to enhance the basic living standards of the affected population by delivering humanitarian aid based on the needs.

Purpose of Position:

The Health and Nutrition Senior Officer is responsible for promoting and implementing health and nutrition programs to improve the well-being and overall health status of individuals or communities. They collaborate with health professionals, community members, and other stakeholders to develop, implement, and monitor health and nutrition initiatives. The role involves conducting assessments, providing education, and advocating for healthy lifestyle choices.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the mission, vision, and core values of BAHAR.
  • Comply with BAHAR policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities, and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the mapping exercise of health and nutrition services provided by BAHAR.
  • Design, plan, and implement health and nutrition programs based on the needs and priorities of the target population or community.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, such as health professionals, government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders, to ensure effective program implementation.
  • Develop strategies to address health and nutrition challenges and promote healthy behaviors.
  • Conduct health assessments and surveys to identify prevalent health issues and nutritional deficiencies within the target population.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health and nutrition interventions regularly.
  • Collect and analyze data to measure the impact of the programs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide nutrition education and counseling to individuals and communities, focusing on balanced diets, healthy eating habits, and the prevention of malnutrition.
  • Create and deliver workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns on nutrition-related topics.
  • Promote health and wellness through awareness campaigns and public health initiatives.
  • Encourage physical activity, vaccination, and regular health check-ups.
  • Advocate for healthy living and prevention of diseases through appropriate channels.
  • Facilitate community participation and involvement in health and nutrition activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of program activities, progress, and outcomes.
  • Prepare regular reports for management and donors to update on program performance and achievements.
  • Assist in budget planning and resource allocation for health and nutrition initiatives.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of resources while adhering to the program’s objectives and requirements.

Academic Qualification/s and Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, Nutrition, Health Sciences, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred for more senior roles.
  • 2-4 years of NGO experience in the area of nutrition programming, experience in both health and nutrition will be an added advantage.
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging in dialogue with a range of actors.
  • Experience in health and/or nutrition projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse populations and stakeholders.
  • Good computer skills – Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to analyze data, interpret findings and use evidence-based approaches to develop interventions.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Willingness to travel to project areas within the north of Syria
  • Good organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Understanding of cultural sensitivity and the ability to work respectfully within diverse communities.
