ALIMA IN CHAD
The history of ALIMA programs in N’Djamena /CHAD
With prevalence rates of acute malnutrition regularly above the alert thresholds in the capital, malnutrition represents a major public health issue in N’Djamena. ALIMA and Alerte Santé have been working there since 2013 in the management of malnutrition in urban areas, both in outpatient and hospitalization. In 2021, the program is implemented in 4 of the 5 health districts of N’Djamena, and covers 10 areas of responsibility, i.e. more than 64,000 children under five. In the regional dynamic to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of malnutrition management programs, ALIMA/AS in collaboration with the Ministry of Health implemented in 2022 the OptiMA approach (Optimizing the management of Acute Malnutrition) in 3 areas of responsibility of the health district of the 9th arrondissement. This approach based on the care of children suffering from acute malnutrition on the basis of simplified approaches has made it possible to provide care for 5,776 children. The project also supports the strengthening of the community approach, through “PB Mothers” training activities, awareness-raising or even through the PECADOM strategy. Following the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alerte Santé and ALIMA supported the HD of Farcha, and continue to support health structures in compliance with infection prevention and control (PCI) standards. Officially integrated into the UNT in 2017 and renewed in April 2020, the multi-year UNT-School project (2020-2023) provides theoretical and practical training in PCIMA for health professionals selected by the Department of Nutrition and Food Technology (DNTA) . Since its creation, nearly 500 agents have been trained
