Epicenter is an organization created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 1986. We carry out field epidemiology, training and research activities for MSF interventions and in collaboration with partners. Our activities with populations in precarious situations are carried out from Uganda, Niger and France, within the programs of MSF and others.
The mission that will be entrusted to you
As Director of the Epidemiology of Intervention and Training Departmentyou will be responsible for organizing expertise in epidemiology and public health in support of the interventions of MSF operational centers and setting up research projects and epidemiological studies evaluating care or management strategies of patients, diagnostic and preventive methods. You will supervise the work of a multidisciplinary team. You will need to develop and maintain relevant partnerships. You will also initiate cross-functional work with Epicenter’s Research department. You will meet MSF’s training needs in the field of epidemiology. As a member of the management team and under the responsibility of the General Manager, you will participate in decisions concerning the evolution of Epicenter.

Managerial and management capacity
You define and follow the objectives and the budget of the department you coordinate and manage (definition of roles and responsibilities, creation of project teams, ongoing support and evaluation). You are responsible for a large multicultural team deployed in different countries.
An ability to initiate research work
Present in MSF medical and operational discussion forums, you identify current, emerging and relevant research questions for populations assisted by MSF. You define future areas of research and support in epidemiology, participate in MSF meetings, during which you bring public health and epidemiology tools to decision-making on medico-operational strategies, prioritization and training.
An ability to support MSF emergencies
Thanks to regular exchanges with the MSF operations departments, you provide relevant epidemiological expertise (surveys, investigations, surveillance, evaluations) to support MSF’s response to emergencies.
An ability to supervise work carried out
As the guarantor of the scientific quality of the work carried out, you mobilize resources, ensure the technical and practical supervision of the studies. You promote and ensure the scientific integrity of studies, which includes responsibility for disseminating results to study participants, partners, and the medical and scientific community.
Contribution to Epicenter
You participate in discussions on issues related to the daily life of Epicenter and future functional, scientific and political developments. You participate in the reputation of Epicenter and its communication (scientific day, internal meetings, media). You report to the MSF operational centers and to the Epicenter board of directors on the progress of the projects.
Prerequisites
- Scientific profile, doctor or paramedical training would be an advantage
- Familiarity with MSF/Epicentre and regular Epicenter partners
- Fluent French and English
- Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing
- Volunteer to engage in the life of an association in a position of responsibility with the management of Epicenter
- Mastery of collaborative tools, preferably Windows Office 365
- Knowledge of software used in epidemiology
Your experience
Operational experience with MSF and/or Epicenter
Demonstrated experience in conducting research projects and epidemiological studies
Maturity in relation to the responsibilities of this position, and good interpersonal skills

Gross annual compensation over 13 months of €83.1k
22 days RTT per year in proportion to the time of presence. Restaurant vouchers with a face value of €11.00 (60% covered by Epicenter). Complementary health care 100% covered by Epicenter. Support at 50% of the public transport season ticket.
