Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office and the Assistance Programme Coordinator, and the direct supervision of the Project Officer (NFIs and Distribution), with technical reporting to the Migration Health Officer, working closely with the Protection Unit and all IOM thematic units, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing the following tasks:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Support organization and implementation of the Supplementary Feeding project activities under the assistance program.
  • Participate in assessments jointly with the medical team to identify the population’s nutritional needs and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Collaborate with IOM medical team and other stakeholders to develop and implement nutrition programs that address the specific needs and challenges of the population.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the Supplementary Feeding project, promoting adherence to Breast Milk Substitutes (BMS) protocols and standards.
  • Assist to provide training and support to mothers, caregivers, staff, and volunteers on nutrition-related topics, including proper handling and preparation of food and health and hygiene practices.
  • Participate in regular nutrition assessments and screenings to identify individuals with malnutrition or other nutritional deficiencies.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data collection and reporting on project activities.
  • Collaborate with IOM Units and partner entities to maintain a coordinated and holistic approach to nutrition interventions in the transit camp.
  • Stay updated on current trends and best practices in nutrition, BMS, and attending relevant trainings.
  • Collaborate with health and medical teams to provide comprehensive, integrated community care.
  • Assist to coordinate internally to ensure the availability and accessibility of supplies.
  • Support developing and implementing BMS awareness strategies to promote Breastfeeding and healthy eating habits and improve nutrition knowledge among communities by supporting the design of Information Education and Communication (IEC) material in line with IOM and global guidelines.
  • In a timely manner, bring challenges and gaps identified to the project manager’s attention.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the supplementary feeding interventions, collecting data, and preparing reports to inform programmatic decisions.
  • Collaborate with Protection, Medical, MHPSS, Community Engagement, and Education units to provide and maintain a multi-sectoral approach to addressing malnutrition/supplementary feeding needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all nutrition-related activities and monitor compliance with relevant guidelines and protocols.
  • Promote a respectful working environment free of harassment, retaliation and prevent sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (PSEAH); this includes identifying PSEAH risks in NFIs operations and implementing the PSEAH risk mitigation plan in the area of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as required within the competencies and responsibilities of the position.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing, or related fields from an accredited academic institution, with three years of experience, preferably in human nutrition programming and distribution of supplementary feeding items, nutrition education focusing on IYCF, and dissemination of IEC materials, or,
  • High School diploma with five years of relevant professional experience, preferably in human nutrition programming and distribution of supplementary feeding items, nutrition education focusing on IYCF, and dissemination of IEC materials.

Experience

  • Professional experience in nutrition programming and nutrition awareness raising.
  • Prior relevant professional experience in nutrition programming in a humanitarian context
  • Prior experience working in camps.
  • Preferable prior experience working with a United Nations agency or an INGO in an emergency context.
  • Knowledge of working with migrants and refugees.

Skills

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and familiarity with Publisher) and Office 365 (SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams).
  • Excellent operational, organizational, and communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously with other colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven experience in drafting reports, and other information products
  • Experience in project management, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting will be an advantage.

Languages

For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of any UN Official language(s) and/or Arabic is an advantage.
