The Nutrition Technician position in the field aims to develop the nutrition component in the interventions of the Action Against Hunger mission in Venezuela, with quality and relevance at the operational level and in knowledge management (e.g. management of acute malnutrition , micronutrient administration), as well as in the planning and organization to achieve the objectives and goals of the project

The main activities you will perform are the following:

Objective 1: Ensure Implement and monitor the project’s nutrition activities in coordination with the mobile health team in terms of PHC and Maternal and Child Health, as well as other areas (WASH, FSL, Gender and protection).

  • Work in close cooperation with the field team in all services of comprehensive health activities as well as other areas (WASH, FSL, Gender and protection) to guarantee the quality of the activities.
  • Plan outings to the field in coordination with the team in order to ensure regular monitoring of the activities, in which its component has influence. In addition, it contributes to informing about needs or alerts.
  • Implement and monitor the nutrition component of the mission, to guarantee its quality compliance, guiding the screening, diagnosis and nutritional monitoring (height, weight, upper arm circumference, hemoglobin) to the beneficiaries of the projects, mainly boys and girls under 5 years, pregnant and lactating women. In accordance with Action Against Hunger standards, in the assigned communities.
  • Carry out the delivery of nutritional products (micronutrients, therapeutic formula, others) to the beneficiary boys and girls in accordance with the indication, following the ACH standards and national guidelines.
  • Monitor the nutritional and humanitarian situation of vulnerable areas/populations/communities in the coverage area of ​​the base and/or project, using external sources (communities, donors, multilateral agencies, government, other NGOs, etc.) and internal sources.
  • Identify possible lines of action in nutrition and health that enable research and innovation.
  • Support and guide educational sessions and behavior change activities that are sensitive and specific to nutrition according to the sociocultural environment where it takes place (e.g. breastfeeding, consumption of micronutrients, hygiene promotion, healthy eating, others as appropriate) .
  • Support the development of technical and operational instruments for the nutrition and health component of the projects (instructional manuals, terms of reference, training plans, commitment minutes, delivery minutes, etc.).
  • Monitors food services that offer food support Incorporating the gender approach (equity and real participation, inclusion of interests and needs, equally between men and women) and the differential approach in the planned actions under its responsibility.
  • Maintain and promote patient confidentiality regarding patient information and records.
  • Prepare, in coordination with the nutrition and health technical team, referral routes for complex cases of malnutrition issues, especially severe cases, and ensure follow-up of cases detected and referred to other more specialized services.
  • Know, promote, implement and follow at all times universal hygiene standards/precautions, biohazard prevention and infection control, safety rules and other protocols in medical facilities and ensure that high hygiene standards are met in your work environment .

Objective 2: Manage knowledge and information about projects and activities.

  • Actively participate in the kobo collection system and guarantee the adequate collection of information from other means of verification (physical and/or digital, as well as in the analysis of data and epidemiological information and/or of interest to the community project.
  • Guarantee the proper management of the database of care in the area of ​​health and nutrition, respecting national and mission regulations regarding the management of personal data and Habeas Data.
  • Present reports on activities in health, nutrition and other areas (WASH, FSL, Gender and Protection), monthly or as needed, ensuring quality information and presentation in all reports.
  • Know the indicators and activities of the project and contribute to the follow-up and monitoring of the activities.
  • Prepare and analyze information on the activities carried out in collaboration with the rest of the team, after the completion of each service event in the communities prioritized in the projects.
  • Participates in monthly meetings scheduled by the health and nutrition technical team and permanently reports progress and action needs with its hierarchical and functional references.
  • Promote and develop systematizations based on field findings, lessons learned and difficulties in relation to the activities in charge.
  • Supports the preparation of systematization documents, based on knowledge, experiences and lessons learned from field work
  • Participate in the systematization and preparation of health reports according to the need (narrative reports, initial baseline and community/family/individual end line) of the activities in charge.
  • Know, promote, implement and follow at all times universal hygiene standards/precautions, biohazard prevention and infection control, safety rules and other protocols in medical facilities and ensure that high hygiene standards are met in your work environment .

OBJECTIVE 3: Knowledge management – reports and lessons learned.

  • Responsible for data management and the preparation of written reports generated in your area and the activities implemented in the project.
  • Actively participate in technical and/or operational meetings for the implementation of the project, when required.
  • Timely report delays encountered in project activities.
  • Proactively support the search for solutions to difficulties encountered in project implementation activities.

Does this description fit you?

  • University degree in Nutrition. Complementary training in Public Health, Epidemiology, Community Health will be valued (accredited courses, diplomas, specializations)
  • Training in SSR, Gender and Gender Violence,
  • Excellent writing skills, including reporting on humanitarian projects with measurable results
  • Work experience in humanitarian and INGO contexts (minimum 2 years)
  • Work experience in implementing nutritional program projects in emergency and community health, ideally in an association or consortium modality.
  • Experience in supporting nutritional programs in communities in vulnerable situations (ethnic communities, children under 5 years of age, pregnant women, infants, etc.), carrying out needs assessment, evaluations of nutritional programs, contingency plans, team training.
  • Experience in implementation, planning and monitoring of CMAM programs
