Field of activity

The Global Health project advises the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on various topics of global health policy, such as the containment of infectious diseases, the role of multilateral health initiatives, strengthening health systems and promoting digital approaches. The project is in lively exchange with actors in German and international development cooperation and thus contributes directly to shaping global health policy. The position is located in the BMZ advisory service on local vaccine and pharmaceutical production in Africa.

Your tasks

  • Strategic and ad-hoc advice to the BMZ on promoting local production of vaccines and pharmaceuticals in cooperation with institutions of the African Union, the European Commission and the private sector
  • Preparation of strategic analyses, position papers, concepts and speeches in German and English as well as leadership in individual specialist topics
  • Content preparation and follow-up of the BMZ’s participation in international conferences, political dialogue events and strategic workshops and, if necessary, support
  • Ongoing analysis of relevant health policy discourses and developments
  • Quality assurance of BMZ supplies and coordination of strategies and activities with other projects in GIZ, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau and Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt as well as with other donors and international partners
  • Support in the strategic development of the component as well as in impact monitoring and project management

your profile

  • Completed master’s degree in health sciences, medicine, pharmacy or political and social sciences with a health-related focus
  • Many years of professional experience in international cooperation in the health sector and/or in cooperation with the business world; several years of experience abroad (preferably in Africa)
  • Several years of experience in policy consulting for the BMZ and cooperation with regulatory authorities, pharmaceutical companies or multilateral organizations in the health sector
  • Proven very good expertise in the areas of vaccine and pharmaceutical production, market design, pharmaceutical regulation, quality assurance, cooperation with the pharmaceutical sector, health system strengthening and infectious diseases
  • Familiarity with current discussions and Germany’s priorities in global health policy
  • High affinity and several years of experience in writing concise technical and political texts as well as the ability to quickly familiarise yourself with complex issues
  • Structured, careful and independent work, analytical and strategic thinking as well as pronounced adaptability and resilience even under time pressure
  • Strong communication and consulting skills combined with teamwork, organizational skills, political sensitivity and a confident demeanor
  • Proficient in German and English
