Médecins du Monde, a medical association campaigning for international solidarity, has been committed for over 40 years to treating the most vulnerable populations here and there, to bearing witness to the obstacles observed in access to care and to obtaining lasting improvements in health policies for all.
An independent association, Médecins du Monde acts beyond care by denouncing attacks on dignity and human rights and by fighting to improve the situation of vulnerable populations.
In France and internationally in nearly 30 countries, our actions aim to facilitate access to the healthcare system through our 6 priority fights:
- Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)
- Migration exile rights and health
- Risk reduction
- Environmental health
- Health systems
- Humanitarian spaces
Context
Since 2013, Médecins du Monde has been working in the Central African Republic to support primary health services (PHS) in different regions and under different modalities (direct support and/or strengthening of the health system), including mental health care, reproductive health, and prevention and care for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV).
Médecins du Monde’s intervention strategy for 2024-2025 includes sustainable support in a specific region, with anticipation of the transition of services to local actors to guarantee the sustainability of care. A nutrition and gender-based violence program is also underway, with operational monitoring and the implementation of monitoring tools.
MdM is also working on a programme for children in street situations, aimed at assessing their health and psychosocial needs and establishing a network of partners to provide a sustainable response. Emergency projects are planned, including needs assessment and preparation of funding applications.
The organization actively participates in monitoring its advocacy strategy to promote the health rights of populations, by influencing local and international policies.
Finally, MdM implements emergency preparedness, defining probable risks and contingency plans to respond to potential crises and emergencies.
