We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Interventional Radiologist
Location:Â Abuja
​​​​​​Job Purpose
- The Interventional Radiologist will be responsible for performing minimally invasive image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat various medical conditions.
- He/ She will provide high-quality patient care through the application of interventional radiology techniques, including but not limited to angiography, biopsy, drainage procedures, and catheter placements.
- The role holder will be an expert in vascular and non-vascular interventions, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and adherence to international best practices in patient care and safety.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
Clinical Procedures & Patient Care:
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures (e.g., angioplasty, embolization, biopsies, drainages).
- Ensure accurate pre-procedure assessments, including patient history and informed consent.
- Monitor patients during and post-procedure for complications.
- Collaborate with surgeons, oncologists, and other specialists for integrated care.
- Adhere to radiation safety protocols and ALARA principles.
- Maintain detailed procedural documentation in EHR systems.
Diagnostic Imaging Interpretation:
- Analyze and interpret imaging studies (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy).
- Provide timely and accurate diagnostic reports.
- Advise referring physicians on appropriate imaging modalities.
- Ensure quality control in imaging techniques.
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and case reviews.
- Stay updated with advancements in imaging technology.
Emergency & On-Call Duties:
- Provide 24/7 emergency interventional radiology services as scheduled.
- Respond promptly to trauma, hemorrhage, or acute thrombosis cases.
- Coordinate with ER and ICU teams for urgent interventions.
- Maintain readiness for emergency procedures (e.g., thrombectomies, embolizations).
- Document emergency interventions and handover notes.
- Train junior staff on emergency protocols.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Follow AMCE’s policies, JCI standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Report adverse events and near misses through hospital systems.
- Ensure proper sterilization and maintenance of Interventional Radiology (IR) equipment.
- Monitor infection control practices in the IR suite.
- Comply with radiation protection and waste disposal regulations.
Research & Academic Contributions:
- Conduct clinical research and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Mentor residents, fellows, and visiting physicians.
- Participate in IR training workshops and simulation labs.
- Collaborate on multicenter clinical trials.
- Contribute to AMCE’s medical education programs.
Technology & Innovation:
- Utilize advanced IR technologies (e.g., robotic-assisted interventions, 3D navigation).
- Evaluate and recommend new IR equipment and software.
- Implement AI-assisted diagnostic tools where applicable.
- Train staff on new IR techniques and devices.
- Optimize workflow efficiency in the IR suite.
- Maintain proficiency in PACS and RIS systems.
Patient Communication & Counseling:
- Explain procedures, risks, and benefits to patients and families.
- Address patient concerns and provide reassurance.
- Obtain informed consent in compliance with ethical guidelines.
- Follow up with patients post-procedure for outcomes assessment.
- Provide second opinions for complex cases.
- Ensure culturally sensitive communication in an international setting.
Administrative & Operational Duties:
- Manage IR procedure scheduling and resource allocation.
- Liaise with biomedical engineering for equipment maintenance.
- Contribute to IR department’s budgeting and cost-efficiency measures.
- Monitor KPIs (procedure volumes, complication rates).
- Implement patient satisfaction improvement strategies.
Requirements
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) and completion of residency in Diagnostic Radiology.
- Fellowship training in Interventional Radiology.
- Experience with a wide range of interventional procedures.
