Responsible for Mental Health Activities – Psychiatrist Profile (m/f/d) At Doctors Without Borders



MAIN OBJECTIVE

As Mental Health Activities Manager, your main objective is to define, implement and coordinate all activities related to mental health in the intervention area; guarantee the quality of care, analyze statistics and reports, and manage the staff involved in these activities in accordance with MSF protocols in order to provide the most appropriate support to patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify the needs for Mental Health support for the population as part of the project and participate in the implementation of the MSF strategy accordingly.
  • Participate in defining, planning, organizing and updating mental health activities and your budget, in close collaboration with other members of the medical team.
  • Ensure the implementation of all standard mental health protocols and methods provided by MSF and supervise their applications by all professionals under their responsibility, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment to patients.
  • Plan and supervise, in close collaboration with the Human Resources department, the associated processes of the personnel under his responsibility.
  • Supervise and ensure that mental activities (within and outside health establishments) with clients are carried out with regular monitoring and in accordance with MSF protocols and standards.
  • Analyze and develop technical materials, tools, guidelines and documents developed for mental health activities to develop appropriate patient support.
  • Carry out mapping and maintain regular updating of existing services, and maintain regular communication and collaboration based on objectives and context.
  • Ensure good communication with other project components.
  • Ensure, in close collaboration with the medical department, that the mental health department participates in consultation, prevention of parent-to-child transmission (PTPE) and voluntary counseling and testing activities (VCTA) when necessary, and according to existing protocols in force at all times.
  • Monitor and evaluate mental health support activities so that reliable information for activities is available and adapted accordingly. Participate in periodic reports as directed.
  • Share problematic situations and cases with the medical coordinator for decision-making and problem-solving assistance.
  • Ensure that psychiatric patients presenting to MSF facilities receive adequate treatment, including psychotropic medications and psychosocial support in an MSF program or through referral to an appropriate resource.
  • Identify possible advocacy issues and inform advocacy team members.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Improve the quality of psychiatric care.
  • Strengthen the capacities of clinicians.
  • Support Mental Health supervisors on the quality of Mental Health care.
  • Train and supervise national and international medical personnel for the diagnosis and treatment of common and serious mental health disorders.
  • Ensure that psychotropic drug guidelines and treatments listed in MSF’s standard drug list are available.

PROFILE REQUIRED

Training and experience

  • Essential: Diploma/master in medicine with specialization in psychiatry
  • Essential: Professional experience of at least two years as a psychiatrist
  • Essential: At least 6 months of recent clinical experience in the last 24 months

    The contractual conditions and salary will be set according to the contracting MSF entity, according to the candidate’s place of residence and in accordance with MSF’s standard job and salary scales
