The Venezuelan Red Cross (CRV) is a humanitarian organization whose mandate is to save lives and improve the conditions of people in vulnerable situations. As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, it provides timely assistance in emergencies, disasters and contexts of humanitarian need.

Guided by its Fundamental Principles —Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Volunteering, Unity and Universality—, the CRV acts as an auxiliary to public powers in the humanitarian field, working to reduce human suffering without distinction of race, gender, religion or ideology. Its work encompasses emergency medical care, strengthening community resilience, first aid training, disaster response, and promoting health and well-being.

How can you make a difference? Key functions/Responsibilities

The general practitioner or specialist will have the main responsibility of carrying out consultation medical evaluations in work areas for the beneficiary populations of the project. Develop and execute a primary health care intervention plan for target communities according to the diagnosis of prevalent diseases according to each area.

He/she will be in charge of:

  • Provide primary health assistance to the general population targeted by the Project’s actions
  • Provide medical consultations, diagnose health status and identify effective treatment for the patients treated
  • Prepare the medical records of the patients and the individual record of the provision of health services.
  • Carry out control of the number of consultations and patients treated in each health center, in the formats established by the CRV
  • Prepare, with the support of other professionals who are relevant to the activity, an initial and final diagnosis document of prevalent diseases according to the intervention area.
  • Support training activities for the general population within the framework of the institutional strategy for health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Request in advance the purchase of medications (with generic name and commercial presentation) and medical supplies required for health care in accordance with CRV standards.
  • Verify the availability of inventory of medicines and supplies necessary for the implementation of specific activities within the framework of project activities.
  • Support from pharmacy staff in medications and supplies indicating name, expiration date, registration date, presentation of quantity and other categories required by the format prior to the implementation of each health center.
  • Comply with the referral and counter-referral mechanisms for patients in the health network identified in the territory of care development.
  • Carry out, in the company of the other members of the team, packaging and unpacking of the elements used in order to guarantee their effective transportation and subsequent deposit.
  • Timely report the status of the equipment in your charge.
  • Coordinate your work with the different people assigned by local health institutions for the development of planned activities.
  • Prepare and deliver a progress report in a timely manner in accordance with the established formats in coherence with the logical framework of the project.
  • Upload medical and related history information into the system established by the national project coordination.
  • Carry out an adequate file of the verification sources of the project in your charge.
  • In coordination with the other health professionals on the team, systematize the data collected within the framework of the health sessions and their analysis that allows decision-making in a timely manner.
  • Comply with and ensure the implementation of biosafety standards.
  • Know and comply with the safety standards in operations established by the development of the project.
  • Timely communicate to the coordinator any incident that affects the development of the scheduled activities and your personal integrity.
  • Execute other tasks assigned by immediate superiors to contribute to the fulfillment of organizational objectives.

Report

The doctor will report to the Local Project Coordinator and the branch presidency.

Workplace: Caracas Community Clinic

To qualify as a builder of the Venezuelan humanitarian system you must meet the following requirements:

  • Medical professional (Accredit original registered title and black background).
  • With letter of completion of article 8. Mandatory.
  • Experience in developing actions as a healthcare doctor in emergency services, outpatient consultation in Venezuela.
  • Have the following vaccines: tetanus, yellow fever and hepatitis B.
  • Flexibility in work schedules and days.
  • Ability to adapt to remote rural areas, if required.
  • Registration in the College of Physicians and solvency.
  • Deontological certification (Art 16).
  • Registration in the Autonomous Health Comptroller Service (SACS)
  • Academic and practical knowledge of primary health care.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationships and with special attention to offering quality services.
  • Training in comprehensive health care for victims of sexual violence (desirable).
  • Management of Microsoft office package and desirable statistics.
  • Experience working with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team under difficult conditions and high levels of stress.
  • Skills in negotiation and peaceful/constructive conflict resolution.
  • Ability and agreement to adhere to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Great sense of responsibility and professional ethics.
