Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a non-governmental, independent and autonomous humanitarian medical organization. The international organization was created under the status of a private non-profit association. MSF’s vocation is to provide humanitarian medical aid to populations victims of armed conflicts, epidemics, pandemics and natural disasters, without distinction of ethnicity, gender, religion, philosophy or political opinion.

Objectives and responsibilities:
Provide psychological support to patients, in accordance with principles, standards and procedures MSF in order to improve their mental health:
- Carry out the assessment of mental health needs, establish a diagnosis and a treatment plan, inform the family of the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and refer patients to other professionals when necessary, this so as to provide the treatment most likely to improve their state of health.
- Implement the protocol for the care of victims of sexual violence (VVS), identify victims of VVS and refer them to the medical team with a view to providing them with the necessary treatment.
- Provide psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group), in accordance with protocols MSF and in order to improve the mental health status of patients.
- Help and train staff members and, if necessary, other stakeholders in order to broaden the scope of mental health activities. Work closely with translators to determine the vocabulary and attitude to adopt during sessions.
- Collect statistics and monitor data relating to mental health activities
- Inform your superior and the medical team of any questions or problems that may arise related to the treatment, so as to offer the best solution from a medical point of view.
- Guarantee the confidentiality of all information relating to the patient.

- Provide direct psychological assistance to victims of violence in health structures supported by MSF á Belladere following the principles
- Charitable principle: Psychologists must act for the benefit of their patients, promoting their well-being and avoiding harm.
- Principle of non-malice: Psychologists must avoid harming their patients and act with caution to minimize potential risks.
- Principle of autonomy: Psychologists must respect the autonomy and decision-making capacity of their patients, allowing them to actively participate in their therapeutic process.
- Principle of justice: Psychologists must treat all patients fairly and equitably, avoiding any form of discrimination.
- Principle of confidentiality: Psychologists must maintain the confidentiality of the information they obtain during the therapeutic process, except in cases where there is an imminent risk to the patient’s life or to third parties.
- Maintain and constantly improve professional knowledge and skills, ensuring that their practice is based on the most recent scientific evidence.
- Avoid any situation that could compromise their impartiality and objectivity in the therapeutic process.
- Refer your patients to other professionals when necessary.
- Complete each patient’s file to help monitor and adequately care for the patients under their responsibility.
- Collaborate in weekly or monthly medical reports according to the request of your manager who can help with the technical analysis of the support that MSF is providing.
Selection profile:
Education : Haitian state diploma in psychology essential.
Experience : Minimum 2 years of experience as a Psychologist. Experience desirable within MSF or another NGO in developing countries. Experience and/or training in clinical psychology desirable.
Languages : Creole and French essential, Spanish is an asset.
