The Africa Christian Health Associations Platform (ACHAP) is a regional organization of Christian Health Associations and networks covering several countries in Sub-Saharan. ACHAP brings together more than 40 national level faith-based networks providing capacity strengthening services to its members in 32 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa. ACHAP is a consortium member in the USAID funded MIHR project and is responsible for capacity strengthening of local organizations.

Job Summary:

Reporting to MIHR Technical Lead – Capacity Strengthening, the position shall support organizational, Grants management and technical capacity strengthening for local partners in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. The Capacity Strengthening Officers shall manage the day-to-day capacity strengthening cycle with a special focus on the Implementation of the local partner capacity strengthening plans. The responsibilities shall cover include working closely with local consultants and MIHR technical teams to organize and manage capacity assessments, provision of continual Technical Assistance (TA) Implementation progress review meetings, and capacity re-assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

The country Capacity Strengthening Officer will work directly with the leadership of the MIHR country project, and local partners organizations on a day to days basis to ensure that all planned capacity strengthening initiatives are implemented effectively and efficiently. Working closely with the MIHR Capacity Strengthening technical lead, the Country Capacity strengthening Officer, will be responsible for ensuring that local partners implement their capacity strengthening plan, and are actively engaged in all relevant capacity strengthening activities. Specifically, working closely with local consultants, and MIHR core and country technical teams, the Country Capacity Strengthening Officer will be responsible for ORGANIZING and MANAGING the implementation of following key capacity strengthening activities:

  1. local partner capacity assessment processes using the MHIR assessment tools.
  2. Development of targeted and prioritized organizational, grants management, and technical strengthening plans.
  3. Structured implementation and monitoring of capacity strengthening plan.
  4. Development and achievement of clear and timebound milestones deliverables to be achieved during implementation of the capacity strengthening plans.
  5. Weekly meeting with local partners to review the implementation of the capacity strengthening plan.
  6. Monthly reporting on local partners capacity strengthening implementation progress.
  7. Quarterly implementation review meetings on capacity strengthening implementation and achievements.
  8. Conducting quarterly capacity re-assessment and revision of capacity strengthening plans.
  9. The effective application of sub-grants for capacity building is provided to the local partners.
  10. Highlighting, resolving and when necessary, escalating up challenges local partner face in implementing the capacity strengthening plans
  11. Provision of monthly quarterly and annual reports

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, health systems strengthening, economics, sociology, or any other health-related subject.
  • An MPH, MBA or master’s in organizational development would be desirable.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with local organizations in health systems strengthening, strategy and policies reviews and development, and institutional capacity strengthening.
  • Experience working with assessment tools and of technical assistance capacity strengthening.
  • Should have good negotiation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good Strategic thinking skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Fluency in French and ability to write and speak in English is a must.
  • Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel
