Health Coordinator:

Development of the health strategy of the Colombia mission with the purpose of expanding health interventions in the country and maximizing their impact, based on the health intervention guidelines of Action Against Hunger:

The main activities you will perform are the following:

Lead the development and positioning of the health strategy of the Colombia mission (MP1).

  • Defines and develops the health strategy of the Colombia mission, based on the health intervention guidelines of Action Against Hunger.
  • Identifies, establishes and leads a strategic and tactical work agenda to position Action Against Hunger with other actors (United Nations, NGOs, institutions and donors).
  • Actively participates in meetings and technical forums at the central and/or local level on nutrition and health topics (clusters).
  • Leads the incorporation of the nutritional security policy, the NUT sector strategy and key Action Against Hunger documents in nutrition and health and their complementarity with other programs and strategic lines of the Country Strategy.
  • Establish working alliances, identify new stakeholders and possible partnership and joint work relationships (consortium work and strategic alliances).
  • Actively participate in regional thinkTEC with colleagues from the Latin American region and other instances defined at the regional level.
  • Actively participates in the work units aimed at writing proposals in which the Nutrition and Health sector is relevant; designs, reviews and validates the technical information required in their writing.
  • Lead the writing of articles that present positive experiences for publications in specialized magazines or other media.
  • It reads and analyzes the data collected in the field, ensuring the transformation of data into information and knowledge relevant to the sector that allows technical incidence from the area it leads or new proposals.
  • Actively participates in the definition of indicators and initiatives of the country strategy in its work sector and reports progress in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that the activities carried out and indicators of actions in the health and nutrition sector are aligned and harmonized with the technical framework and the global impact indicators of the organization, reporting said information in the required instances.
  • Actively participate in ALEXANDRIA discussions and spaces.

Ensure the quality of the actions of the Nutrition and Health area in the projects underway in the Colombia mission (MP2).

  • Ensures the implementation of the organization’s alignments in the programmatic proposals of the mission.
  • Controls results, beneficiaries achieved, goals and indicators of all actions and projects in the Nutrition and Health area.
  • Design and implement process maps of the main work “processes, micro processes and activities” of the Nutrition and Health sector, which facilitate and simplify the teams’ understanding of the main elements for the development of activities.
  • Ensures the inclusion of aspects related to gender, sexual diversity and protection, and their correlation with hunger and health.
  • Actively participates in project implementation committees, providing guidance and supporting decision-making regarding the implementation of actions in their sector.
  • Monitors compliance with health standards required by key institutional health actors (Ministry of Health, hospitals, health secretaries, etc.) for operations linked to health and nutrition in all departments and areas of action.
  • Lead territory analysis in intervention areas.
  • Lead the analysis and response plan for risk and disaster prevention for the Nutrition and Health component in the mission.
  • Reports what is required to the production/implementation coordination to ensure the quality of the projects and the gender focus required either in specific activities or in the entire approach to the implementation of actions.

Management of technical personnel in their area of ​​expertise.

  • Prepares and carries out induction for new members of the technical team, ensuring that they begin their work with the corresponding training and area guidelines.
  • Leads the technical development process of the people on his team aimed at forming a group with high capabilities.
  • Organizes, motivates and monitors project technical staff priorities to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Coordinates, reviews and comments on reports generated from the field in the area of ​​health and nutrition.
  • Actively participates in the recruitment, monitoring and departure processes of technical personnel in the Nutrition and Health sector.

Knowledge management

  • Ensures the incorporation of digital interventions in nutrition and health for information management and increased effectiveness of actions.
  • Leads the use of nutrition and health data in coordination with project managers and technicians for internal and external knowledge management.
  • Actively collaborates with the Information Management Unit (UGI).
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and use of new technologies, contributing to the digital transformation of the organization.
  • Reviews and validates verification sources for projects that contain actions in the health and nutrition sector.
  • Ensures a monitoring system with secondary data of epidemic situations in Action Against Hunger intervention areas.

Safety management and promotion of safety culture.

  • Follow the security rules specified in the mission security plan.
  • Ensures compliance with the plan by the team in charge and performs security management tasks that may be assigned in their protocols.
  • Communicate to security managers and/or country management any relevant information related to security or non-compliance with the security plan.

Does this description fit you?

  • Professional degree in Medicine or Health Sciences, with a master’s degree or doctorate in public health and/or specialization in Nutrition, Pediatrics, Maternal and Child Health (MCH), Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH).
  • Minimum experience of 5 years in humanitarian or development projects, in conflict areas, in the implementation of health and nutrition programs with vulnerable communities, with emphasis on children under 5 years of age and pregnant and lactating women. Experience in inter-institutional coordination activities. Capabilities in interdisciplinary work and team leadership. Skills in relationships with central government institutions and in political advocacy actions. Knowledge of development cooperation project management (project cycle). Experience in human resources management.
  • Specific technical knowledge in social epidemiology and health needs assessment. Knowledge of the health system and regulations of Colombia and/or other Latin American countries is desirable. Management of community work methodologies and tools. Experience in the development and management of public health policy.
  • Knowledge in the development of programs related to nuturing care , in programs aimed at improving universal health coverage, in the development of programs in primary health care and community level, in community organization and activation in relation to the health response.
  • Knowledge of anemia, chronic malnutrition, acute malnutrition (guideline for the integrated management of acute malnutrition, national and international standards for the management of malnutrition). Experience in medical care in emergency humanitarian aid. Management of sexual and reproductive health. Management of research methodologies and evaluation methodologies such as SMART, SQUEAC, SARA, MIRA and others.
  • Languages: Spanish and upper-intermediate spoken and written English.
  • Office automation and specific systems: Mastery of the Office package and knowledge of the use of specialized tools: Epi Info, Anthro Plus, ENA, Power Bi.
  • Desirable: General knowledge of the organization and its lines of action.
  • High availability for geographic mobility (travel to work areas, specific support to them).
  • Commitments to gender equality and zero tolerance for abuse. Previous experience on issues related to the promotion of gender equality or personal commitment to gender equality is valuable.
