JOB DESCRIPTION

UNICEF is working in some of the most challenging places in the world to reach the most disadvantaged children in the world. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them realize their potential.

In 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for all.

And we never give up.

For every child, there is hope

Proper nutrition is essential for the growth and development of the child, which is paramount to achieving his or her full potential. Significant progress has been made in the fight against malnutrition in all its forms in Burkina Faso over the past decade. Chronic malnutrition has risen from 35.1% in 2009 to 21.6% in 2021 (national SMART nutrition surveys 2009 to 2021). However, malnutrition remains a major public health problem in the country.

In the field of’ infant and young child feeding practices (ANJE), Burkina Faso has reached and exceeded the target of the global assembly of health by 50% exclusively breastfed children up to’6 months old (69.6% in 2021). The rate of food diversity (consumption of’at least 5 groups of’foods) increased from 17.4% to 31% during the same period. This rate means that 69% of children do not have access to at least five groups of’foods and are in food poverty. The proportion of’children aged 6 to 23 months with a minimum acceptable diet increased from 17.4% in 2019 to 24% in 2021.

How can you make a difference?

The general objective of the Consultancy is to provide support to the Government of Burkina Faso to make an in-depth analysis of the gaps, bottlenecks and obstacles to food, adequate practices and services at political, institutional and community level for the improvement of diets of children aged 6-23 months.
