Area of activity
On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the global project “Pandemic Resilience, One Health” (global project PROH) aims to strengthen prevention and response capacities at national, regional and global levels. The establishment and implementation of the One Health approach helps to preserve and improve the health of people, animals and the environment more sustainably and to identify health risks at an early stage. The basis is the BMZ Strategy for Health, Social Protection and Population Dynamics, which identifies interfaces between biodiversity, environmental, human and animal health for pandemic prevention. Important cooperation partners at the international level are the WHO, the Quadripartite and the African Union, in particular Africa-CDC.The „Quickly Deployable Expert*Internal Health Group (SEEG)“ supports countries in the short term and in a needs-oriented manner.
Your tasks
- Participation in the planning and implementation of operations of the “Rapidly Deployable Health Expert Group (SEEG)” in partner countries in the event of acute disease outbreaks and the composition of needs-based response teams. Technical conception of operations and training for different target groups in the areas of pandemic preparedness, epidemiology/surveillance and response measures
- Technical and technical implementation of training measures as part of SEEG operations, e.g. in the areas of infection control and hygiene, laboratory medicine, surveillance, risk communication, AMR, One Health, Water Sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and One Health
- Communication and coordination with the experts* from the SEEG cooperation network and clarification of needs with the partners
- Support in advice on and assessment of infectious diseases, epidemiological issues in the subject area of One Health, especially in the area of vector diseases and the climate/health interface and the associated changes in the spread of diseases
- Support in advising and supporting technical training on surveillance as well as surveillance tools such as EWARS, SORMAS, DHIS2
- Support in advising the BMZ and bilateral and regional development cooperation projects on topics of pandemic preparedness and response, disease surveillance, epidemiology, risk communication, zoonoses, neglected tropical diseases and WASH
- Supporting the global project and the BMZ in setting up/expanding and supporting collaborations/networks in the area of pandemic preparedness and international processes
- Development of concepts and strategies as well as implementation of (international) events in the area of pandemic preparedness/health security
Your profile
Required criteria:
- Completed university studies in global health, medicine or veterinary medicine
- In-depth knowledge of the specialist areas in the areas of international health security/biosecurity, surveillance, WASH, antimicrobial resistance and/or neglected tropical diseases, rapidly deployable reaction groups
- Excellent consulting expertise, high conceptual skills, cooperation and communication strength
- Diplomatic skills, intercultural competence and ability to prioritize and work in fragile contexts
- Fluent in German and English, fluent in Spanish or French
Desirable criteria:
- Supplementary additional training in a relevant subject area is desirable
- Initial professional experience in development cooperation in the technical areas of disease control, pandemic preparedness, epidemiology in/with countries in Africa, Asia or Latin America
- Initial professional experience with highly pathogenic pathogens; Biosafety levels 3 and 4
