Community Based Health Workers At Save the Children



Locations: SCI Implementing Communities in Kaga LGA: Mainok, Marguba, Benisheikh, Tomsu Kawu, Makinta kururi, Gamdu and Wassaram

Introduction

Currently, we are seeking qualified individuals to join our team as Community Based Health Workers.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

CBHWs:

  • Support basic management of common childhood illnesses and assist health facility teams
  • Conduct routine screening for women and children, identify and manage simple cases, and refer severe or malnourished cases
  • Provide health education and counselling on Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH), hygiene, disease prevention, immunization, and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF)
  • Support immunization services, growth monitoring, and follow-up of defaulting or high-risk households
  • Participate in community awareness activities and promote early health- seeking behavior while ensuring Interpersonal Communication (IPC), safeguarding, and confidentiality
  • Carry out other assigned health duties to strengthen community-level service delivery
  • Responsible for data input of Integrated Community Case Management (ICCM) and Primary Healthcare (PHC) activities

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

CBHWs:

  • Degree / HND / Diploma in Health Information Management (HIMS) or equivalent with preferably 0-1-year work experience in Health record or with development-related organizations.
    • Good communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English and local language
    • Knowledge of community-based child protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches (PRA/PLA) and child participation methodologies.
    • Good IT skills including the use of Word, database software and DHIS2
    • Demonstrable ability to adapt to changing programme priorities and emergency priorities that may arise
    • Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
    • Positive attitude towards community work with emphasis on the ability to learn from communities and support innovative approaches to problem solving
    • Commitment to Save the Children’s Child Protection Policy.
