Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepare the operating room and ensure it is ready before the start of surgical procedures.
  • Prepare the instruments, equipment, and surgical supplies required for each procedure.
  • Ensure that surgical instruments are properly sterilized and that their packaging is intact before use.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and ensure their readiness according to the instructions of the medical team.
  • Assist the surgical team during procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Maintain the sterile surgical field and adhere to aseptic and sterilization principles throughout the procedure.
  • Pass surgical instruments to the physician and surgeon during procedures when working as a Scrub Technician.
  • Prepare surgical equipment and devices and ensure they are functioning properly.
  • Assist with counting instruments, gauze, and surgical materials before, during, and after procedures according to approved protocols.
  • Assist in managing emergency situations within the operating room.
  • Clean and prepare the operating room and equipment after completion of procedures.
  • Handle contaminated instruments and safely transfer them to the sterilization area.
  • Apply infection prevention and control procedures and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure the availability of surgical supplies and report any shortages to the responsible person.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the operating room and related areas.
  • Document required information and procedures according to the hospital’s documentation system.
  • Report any malfunction of devices or equipment or any incident that may affect patient safety.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with surgeons, physicians, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and hospital policies.
  • Adhere to shift schedules and respond to emergency cases according to the needs of the department.
  • Perform any other related duties within the scope of practice as directed by the direct supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Health technical qualification or relevant educational background suitable for working in surgical operating rooms.
  • Previous experience in operating rooms.
  • Good knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and their proper use.
  • Good knowledge of sterilization and infection prevention and control principles.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergency situations.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Commitment to patient safety standards and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to work shifts.
