Responsibilities and Duties

  • Clean, prepare, and sterilize medical instruments and equipment in accordance with approved procedures and standards.
  • Receive, sort, and prepare used medical instruments and supplies for cleaning and sterilization.
  • Operate sterilization equipment and monitor sterilization cycles according to approved operating procedures.
  • Verify the effectiveness of sterilization processes using chemical and biological indicators in accordance with established procedures.
  • Prepare and package medical instruments and equipment prior to sterilization in a manner that ensures their safety and maintains sterility.
  • Store sterilized instruments and supplies in an organized and safe manner.
  • Monitor the validity and integrity of sterilized items and ensure they are protected from contamination.
  • Prepare and distribute sterilized instruments to different departments according to their needs.
  • Strictly adhere to infection prevention and control and occupational safety procedures when handling contaminated instruments.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the sterilization area and work equipment.
  • Accurately document sterilization processes, cycles, tests, and required records.
  • Report any malfunction of sterilization equipment or any issue that may affect the safety and effectiveness of the sterilization process.
  • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures and infection prevention and control standards.
  • Perform any other related duties within the scope of practice according to the needs of the department.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) or infection prevention and control.
  • Good knowledge of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization methods for medical instruments.
  • Ability to operate and monitor various sterilization equipment.
  • Strict adherence to infection prevention and control and occupational safety procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and under pressure.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong sense of responsibility when handling medical instruments.
  • Willingness to work shifts according to the hospital’s needs.
