The scope of work (SOW) sets forth the services to be provided by the Associate, Community Health to Technical Advice Connect LTD/GTE (TAConnect), a non-profit organization registered and based in Nigeria to bring innovative solutions to the provision of Technical Assistance (TA) services to states in Nigeria.

Job Description:

The Community Associate will support the State Team lead in overseeing daily program operations and coordination of all aspects of TAConnect’s community GANC/PNC project activities in Yobe state. He/she will collaborate with the other program/technical teams in the ongoing implementation of TA on Demand for the delivery/scale of MNH at the community level. He/she will ensure prompt and accurate data is collected for programmatic use and decision-making.  The Community Associate will ensure that all referrals from the community are tracked. He/she will also ensure adherence to TAConnects’ corporate and field office policies, and donor regulations. He/she will also ensure adherence to TAConnects’ policies and donor regulations in the states.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Support the implementation of an evidence based and data-driven community Group Antenatal Care in Yobe State
  • Support the state to co-create and design a contextualized community G-ANC/PNC model that addresses the barriers to uptake of key MNH services in collaboration with stakeholders (SMOH, SPHCDA, SMEP, other relevant MDAs, health providers from the PHCs, implementing partners, community gatekeepers and women groups).
  • Facilitate the provision of an integrated MNH bundle leveraging appropriate community structures in selected communities.
  • Lead community-level demand creation activities that ensure equitable and quality services to the most vulnerable women and children who are unable to access facility services while ensuring a functional nexus with the catchment facilities through an improved and efficient referral system.
  • Support the expansion of MNH services to reduce the risk of home birth through strengthening referral and Emergency Transport System (ETS) between TBAs and supported PHCs, and distribution of life-saving commodities in the communities leveraging community structures.
  • Work with the SMOH, SPHCDA, and local government health authorities to deploy a mentorship model for community G-ANC anchored on the mentorship scheme already developed from the G-ANC implementation.
  • Map, identify, and engage traditional, religious, and community leaders to deepen community engagement and strengthen male engagement to improve the early commencement of ANC, uptake of critical MNH services, and facility delivery with SBA.
  • Conduct targeted advocacy and deep engagements with the relevant policymakers and community gatekeepers to create a favorable policy environment and secure the needed commitment from all key state and community actors in the design and implementation of the community G-ANC model.
  • Strengthen referral and ETS services to ensure continuity of care between communities and catchment facilities.
  • Support the training of CHIPS on the community distribution of misoprostol, PPH counseling, home visits, demand creation, and referral.
  • Support the orientation and mentorship of TBAs on the use of calibrated drapes for early detection of PPH.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all activities and service delivery by CHIPS.
  • Support routine data collection of program data.
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by the State Team Lead

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in public health, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Community Development, or a related field. A master’s degree in public health is an added advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in community health programs, preferably in maternal and newborn health
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement, training, and capacity building.
  • Commitment to gender-sensitive approaches and addressing gender inequalities in health care.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow standard practices and procedures and receive general instructions and supervision on work progress.
  • Ability to make significant contributions to end results with resourcefulness to identify, resolve problems, and to make timely decisions.
  • Indigene and resident in or familiarity with the Yobe landscape is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse community stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Adaptable to change, and flexible with duties and hours.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Local Dialect

Supervision

The Associate, Community Health will report to the Team Lead, State.
