Clinical Supervision for National and Community Psychosocial Staff – Kakuma Refugee Camp & Kalobeyei Settlement, Kenya At Handicap International – Humanity & Inclusion

PROJECT*: Support for Persons with Specific Needs Project (Kakuma and Kalobeyei)*

(KENYA-EAR PROGRAM)

Consultancy Duration: June – December 2025 (7 months)

CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

Humanity & Inclusion (HI) is an independent and impartial aid organization working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict, and disaster. We support people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups to meet essential needs, improve their living conditions, and uphold their dignity and rights.

In Kenya, HI supports refugees and asylum seekers through inclusive programming. In Kakuma refugee camp and Kalobeyei settlement, HI provides mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) through a team of national psychosocial staff and trained community psychosocial workers. These frontline workers often face emotional strain due to repeated exposure to distressing stories, increasing their risk of burnout and vicarious trauma. To maintain service quality and safeguard staff well-being, HI is seeking a qualified consultant (individual or firm) to provide clinical supervision to psychosocial staff working in these locations.

Clinical supervision is a core component of ethical and effective MHPSS service delivery. It provides a structured space for reflection, skill enhancement, and emotional support, enabling staff to manage complex cases, maintain boundaries, and uphold professional standards. It also plays a crucial role in preventing vicarious trauma and promoting personal resilience and self-care among staff—especially those who are themselves from displaced or vulnerable communities.

PROGRAMME CONTEXT

HI implements mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activities in the Kakuma refugee camp and Kalobeyei settlement to persons experiencing psychological distress.

The team includes:

  • 2 Psychosocial Officers
  • 4 Protection Case Management Officers
  • 7 Community Psychosocial Workers

These staff provide non-specialized psychosocial support aligned with IASC guidelines, such as Group Problem Management Plus (GPM+). HI is part of the Kakuma MHPSS Technical Working Group, collaborating with partners including IRC, Kenya Red Cross, LWF, DRC, and FCA. Clinical supervision will further strengthen the capacity and well-being of HI-trained staff working in this resource-limited and high-demand context.

DESCRIPTION OF THE REQUIRED SERVICE PROVISION
