Community Facilitator in Nutrition and Health

Headquarters:

Palencia Region, Guatemala

Mission:

The Community Nutrition and Health Facilitator is the main implementer and point of contact with the participants in the Palencia region, will focus on the implementation of programmatic activities related to nutrition and maternal and child health training; vitamin and dewormer supplementation, promotion and monitoring of healthy schools and school feeding programs; nutrition and community health and other related topics. You will be responsible for executing all field activities and organizing the collaboration of the participants throughout the year, ensuring that processes are completed and reported according to planning and within budget availability.

Position Profile

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Vocational training at the diversified level with an emphasis on nutrition, health or the like.
  • Training certifications on topics related to nutrition, health or the like.
  • At least two (2) years of work experience as a promoter or field facilitator in NGOs, international cooperation agencies or government agencies related to Nutrition and Health.
  • Intermediate technical knowledge of nutrition and maternal and child health and community.
  • Experience implementing community health and nutrition programs.
  • Basic knowledge and mastery in computer programs and systems for reporting, creation of info-educational materials, data collection and use of databases.
  • Advanced experience riding standard gearmotives on rough terrain.
  • Current motorcycle driving license.
  • Reside in the Municipality of Palencia.
  • Ability to project and maintain a calm work environment while at the same time operating in an environment defined by deadlines and dates and required by its internal and external clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relational and communication skills, with a history of inspiring collaboration across various functions.
  • Have a deep connection with the local context of communities in conditions of social risk.
  • Ease to adopt and promote a positive attitude towards the processes of change, renewal and transformation.
  • Be committed to creating a positive impact in the world, with inspiration, passion, compassion and a vocation for service.

Essential Functions:

  • Create and train community groups on Nutrition and Health issues
  • Organizes Nutrition and Health fairs in the communities, and any other activity that discloses, educates and trains external parties and participants in collaboration with the Community Facilitator/a in Education and Food Security.
  • Coordinates with school authorities, parents and students the execution of the School Feeding Program, and strengthens the appropriate practices of acquisition, distribution, oversight, proper storage and use of food and its proper nutritionally balanced preparation; under the healthy school approach.
  • Creates a monitoring work plan in the communities, under the supervision of the Nutrition and Health Coordinator, and in collaboration with the Facilitator/a Community of Food Education and Security.
  • It reports activities with means of verification.
  • It executes methodologies in the communities and provides feedback on the implementation for the creation or modification of strategies and info-educational materials.
  • Motivates and inspires participants to share knowledge with other community members.
  • Collect data for surveys, nutritional or anthropometric information.
  • Provides feedback to the Nutrition and Health Coordinator on the findings in the communities; and identifies needs.
  • Develop support activities for other programs such as Child Sponsorship.
  • Represents Feed the Children at the community level, with local authorities.
  • Complies with all Feed the Children operating policies and procedures.
  • Create excellent external communications and interactions with key community stakeholders.
  • Creates and maintains excellent internal communications with the rest of the staff, focusing on common objectives; always maintaining a proactive, collaborative and respectful attitude; identifying areas for improvement.
  • Executes the administrative and financial processes required for the execution of the funds.
  • It performs other functions assigned within its specialty area and others required by the organization.
