The physician is responsible for the overall care of patients, including promoting patient health and safety by performing thorough triage, careful history taking, physical examination, essential laboratory and radiology tests, diagnosis, treatment and referral, and education of patients and their caregivers.

  1. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide high quality clinical care to patients based on history, appropriate physical examination, available laboratory and imaging tests, and medication list for treatment of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Depending on area of ​​assignment, conduct daily patient rounds, initiate case discussions, monitor and document patient progress and any changes in management and prognosis, and ensure appropriate handover in the event physician responsibilities are transferred to an inpatient facility.
  • Indicate whether further testing and/or advanced care is needed and begin the referral process.
  • Organize regular case discussions as part of practical training.
  • Identify gaps in staff training and provide didactic and/or practical training as necessary.
  • Advocate with supervisors for any other necessary training of staff working within the team and provide the necessary training.
  • Use data collection tools provided and train other staff as necessary.
  • Collect and analyze medical service data to ensure the quality of patient care and services.
  • Ensure that standard precautions of infection prevention and control (IPC) measures are always implemented and adhered to in accordance with Ministry of Health and international standards.
  • Where applicable, participate in a 24-hour health service delivery system at the clinic, facility or hospital, depending on work schedules.
  • Comply with international protocols and standards for patient assessment, diagnosis and medical prescription of medications.
  • Manage and supervise other clinical staff as directed by the supervisor; participate in the hiring process as necessary.
  • Provide health education to patients and community members regarding their diagnoses, healthy diets, physical activity, hygiene promotion, and disease prevention (such as the need to get vaccinated, quit smoking, etc.)
  • Comply with administrative guidelines regarding work schedules, record keeping, patient communications, replenishment of essential medications, consumables and other medical supplies.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Immediately report any violations of the IMC Code of Conduct, including those related to patient protection.
  • Provide outreach health services in cases assigned by the supervisor.

  1. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Hold a medical degree (primary care physician) with a valid license to practice and be board certified or equivalent (eligible for board/National Order of Physicians).
  • Have more than two years of relevant clinical work, post-graduate medical experience after medical degree, work in low resource environments preferred.
  • Experience in primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and emergency and epidemic response programs is preferred.
  • Previous NGO experience preferred
  • Have excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic and pressured environment.
  • Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Have excellent self-motivation skills.
  • Have the ability to exercise sound judgment and excellent decision-making skills.

JOB SUMMARY

  1. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide high quality clinical care to patients based on history, appropriate physical exam, available laboratory, imaging tests, and formulary for treatment of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Based on the area of assignment, conduct daily rounds on patients, initiate case discussions, monitor and document patient progress with any changes in management and prognosis and ensure adequate handover in case physicians’ responsibilities are assigned to an inpatient facility.
  • Advise if further testing and/or advanced care is required and initiate the referral process.
  • Initiate regular case discussions as part of hands-on training.
  • Identify gaps in staff training and provide didactic and/or hands-on training as needed.
  • Advocate to supervisors for other necessary training of the staff working in the team as well as providing necessary training
  • Utilize given data collection tools and provide training to other staff as needed.
  • Collect and analyze medical service data to quality of care for the patients and services.
  • Ensure standard precautions of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures are always implemented and adhered to as per MoH and international standards.
  • When applicable, participate in a 24-hour health service delivery system at the clinic/facility/hospital as per shift schedules.

  • Adhere to administrative directives with regards to work schedules, record keeping, patient communications, re-stocking of essential drugs, consumables, and other medical supplies.

  • Conduct outreach health services in case assigned by the supervisor.

  • Typically, a medical degree (primary care physician) with a valid license to practice and be board certified or equivalent (board eligible).
  • Typically, 2+ years of relevant clinical work, post graduate medical experience after graduating from medical college, work in low-resource settings preferred.
  • Experience in programs relating to primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, communicable and non-communicable diseases as well as emergency/outbreak response preferable.
  • Previous NGO experience preferable
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
