EMERGENCY MEDICAL COORDINATOR – ITURI – M/F At ALIMA

ALIMA, the international medical NGO with a human face, which places the co-construction of projects and professional careers at the heart of its model

ALIMA PRESENTATION IN THE DRC

ALIMA has had an operational presence in Ituri since 2022, particularly in the Bunia and Rwampara Health Zones, and benefits from a good knowledge of the context and local health stakeholders. As soon as the Ebola epidemic was declared, ALIMA activated its emergency system, mobilized its teams and prepositioned stocks, and obtained accreditation from the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) to officially participate in the response.

ALIMA has recognized expertise in the management of viral hemorrhagic fever epidemics in the DRC and internationally. The organization has played a major role in several Ebola outbreaks in the DRC (11th to 16th epidemics) as well as in Guinea, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea and Rwanda, through case management, surveillance, infection prevention and control (ICP) and capacity building of health personnel.

Since 2020, ALIMA has relied on a national preparation and response plan for viral hemorrhagic fevers allowing it to quickly deploy qualified personnel and medical and WASH resources. The organization is also at the origin of the CUBE concept (Biosecure Emergency Room for Epidemics), an internationally recognized innovation for the safe care of patients suffering from highly infectious diseases.

Declared in mid-May 2026, the 17th Ebola virus disease outbreak quickly spread beyond its first outbreaks in Ituri. Despite the gradual strengthening of treatment centers, the appearance of new outbreaks, sometimes far from these structures, requires early detection and a rapid response to limit transmission.

The ALIMA response is part of a global project co-financed by multiple donors, which is based on 3 pillars: the Ebola Treatment Centers (5 CTEs supported at the end of September 2026), the Rapid Intervention Teams (EIR), which enable the rapid deployment of a multidisciplinary intervention team in affected or high-risk areas (investigation of alerts, strengthening of triage and isolation of suspected cases, support for sampling and diagnosis, initial care and referral of patients, improvement of PCI in health structures), and communication on risks and community engagement (CREC) to fight against rumors, strengthen acceptance of the response and encourage early reporting and referral of suspected cases.
