CARE – INNOVATE – TOGETHER:Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has reached more than 18 million beneficiaries in 15 countries, mainly in Africa. In 2024, we developed 59 humanitarian medical response projects to meet the needs of populations affected by conflicts, epidemics and extreme poverty. All of these projects support national health authorities through health structures (including hospitals and health centers). Our action results from constant adaptation to realities on the ground and advances in medicine. In 2024, ALIMA reached 5.9 million beneficiaries. We work in partnership, particularly with local NGOs, whenever possible to ensure that our patients benefit from expertise where it is found, whether in their country or in the rest of the world.Furthermore, to improve the humanitarian response, we carry out operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the field of the fight against malnutrition and viral hemorrhagic fevers.

ALIMA TEAM:more than 2000 people currently work for ALIMA. The field teams, as close as possible to patients, receive their support from coordination teams generally based in the capital of the countries of intervention. These receive support from the 4 desk teams and the emergency and opening department team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The Paris and New York teams are actively working on fundraising and representing ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA Galaxy includes individuals and partner teams who work on behalf of other organizations such as the medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERTE Santé, SOS Médecins /KEOOGO, AMCP, the research organizations PACCI, INSERM, INRB, the Universities of Bordeaux or Copenhagen, the NGO Solidarités International and many others.

OUR PROJECT THEMES: Malnutrition, Sexual and reproductive health including gender-based violence, Primary and secondary health, surgery, pediatric care, killer diseases such as Malaria, AKI, Diarrhea, Epidemics (Hemorrhagic fevers, meningitis, Cholera, Measles, Dengue, Covid-19).

OUR COUNTRIES OF INTERVENTION: Mali, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Haiti, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Guinea, South Sudan, Senegal, Mauritania and Sudan.

JOB CONTEXT

ALIMA is an international medical organization which is facing growth in its volumes of activity and increasingly complex intervention contexts (chronic humanitarian emergencies, rapid mission openings, epidemic responses). Recent findings highlight a need to strengthen and secure the NGO’s pharmaceutical supply chain.

Furthermore, ALIMA is engaged in a large-scale response against a high-impact Ebola epidemic, characterized by long-term visibility and involving the mobilization of very significant financial funds for the purchase of specific inputs.

ALIMA is also engaged in the humanitarian response in Sudan. Faced with the challenges of access to care, particularly for humanitarian personnel, ALIMA is committed to setting up a project to provide care for humanitarian people with medical care activities for medical emergencies and medical evacuation to Chad.

In this context, the intensivist doctor and quality of care support will support medical care activities in the Ebola response, support the Sudan teams in the implementation of activities for the care of humanitarian personnel. It will also support the quality of care in all ALIMA missions through training, development of SOPs and also field support missions.

DUTY STATION: Operational headquarters (Dakar, Senegal) with frequent field trips (> 70%)

MAIN MISSION

The main mission of the Intensivist Doctor and quality of care support is to guarantee the quality of clinical and medical care on ALIMA projects, with a particular focus on the Ebola response and the care provision project and medical evacuation for humanitarian personnel in Sudan/Chad.

Its main mission axes are:

• Clinical support and supervision of medical management in the Ebola response: Ensure quality of care and clinical technical support as part of the Ebola response in the DRC.
• Support for the implementation of care provision and medical evacuation activities for humanitarian personnel in Sudan: Support the Sudan team in the development and operational deployment of the emergency care and medical evacuation system to Chad.
• Continuous improvement and standardization of quality of care: Support all ALIMA missions through training, the drafting of clinical SOPs, and field support missions.

Specific responsibilities and tasks

Axis 1: Clinical support and supervision of the Ebola response

• Clinically and technically support medical teams on the ground engaged in the Ebola response.
• Ensure scientific monitoring and adaptation of Ebola treatment protocols according to international recommendations and the specificities of the project.
• Collaborate with logistics and supply teams to identify and quantify the needs for inputs and resuscitation equipment specific to Ebola care.
• Participate in the clinical evaluation of the effectiveness and safety of care provided within treatment centers.

Axis 2: Support for healthcare provision and medical evacuation activities in Sudan

• Develop specific protocols for the management of medical emergencies and critical stabilizations before transfer.
• Develop, test and operationalize medical evacuation procedures (MEDEVAC) from Sudan to Chad, in close collaboration with country coordination teams and headquarters.
• Provide briefing and training of care teams in Sudan on emergency and patient stabilization protocols.

Axis 3: Quality Assurance, SOP and Continuous Technical Support (Global Missions)

• Develop, revise and standardize standard operating procedures (SOP) for clinical care (emergencies, resuscitation, pediatrics, etc.) for all ALIMA missions.
• Establish and monitor quality indicators of clinical care in health structures supported by ALIMA.
• Carry out regular support, audit and clinical support missions in the field to assess the quality of care and propose improvement plans.
• Provide remote technical support and clinical advice (telemedicine/coaching) for medical coordinators and referents in the field.

Axis 4: Capacity Building and Training

• Design continuing training modules and tools (theoretical and practical, emergency simulations) adapted to the needs of ALIMA’s national and international health personnel.
• Plan, lead and evaluate face-to-face or remote training sessions on emergency management, resuscitation and biosecurity (Ebola).
• Individually support and coach referring doctors in the field to strengthen their clinical and managerial skills related to the quality of care.

This job profile may be modified, depending on the progress of the work. In addition to the tasks mentioned above, the Support Intensivist doctor may be required to carry out other tasks assigned by the head of the Medical Service according to ALIMA’s needs.

PROFILE SEARCH

Training and Diplomas:

• State Diploma of Doctor of Medicine with a specialization (DES/DESC or equivalent) in Anesthesia-Resuscitation, Medical Resuscitation, or Emergency Medicine.
• Additional training in public health or humanitarian medicine/tropical medicine is an asset.

Experience required:

• Professional experience of at least 2 years in intensive care, intensive care or emergency services (experience within an international medical NGO is required).
• Highly valued direct clinical or coordination experience in responding to outbreaks of viral hemorrhagic fevers (Ebola, Lassa, Marburg).
• Practical experience in implementing emergency stabilization protocols and organization of medical evacuation procedures (MEDEVAC).
• Demonstrated experience in training medical and paramedical personnel in resource-limited settings.

Technical skills and personal qualities:

• Mastery of resuscitation, airway management, mechanical ventilation and critical monitoring.
• Solid expertise in infectious risk management and biosecurity in an epidemic context.
• Excellent writing skills, development of SOPs and clinical guides.
• Recognized teaching ability to design and deliver clinical training.
• Strong responsiveness, adaptability and ability to work in complex, stressful and multicultural emergency environments.

Languages:

• French: Fluent (excellent report writing skills, procedures and summary notes).
• English: Professional (ability to work in English with multinational teams, partners and consult scientific literature).

JOB CONDITIONS

Duration of contract: 6-month fixed-term contract under Senegalese law

Taking up a position: As soon as possible

Salary: according to the salary scale in force at Dakar Headquarters.

Extra-contractual benefits: Five weeks of paid leave per year and recovery day system for travel
