Job Title: Medical Doctor

Main Purpose
- Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiary’s health conditions.
Job Description
- Provide inpatient medical care to patients IPD/ITFC /beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values, and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiaries’ health conditions.
- Examine, diagnose and treat patients who have been referred to the hospital by ATFCs, self-referrals, private and other health professionals.
- Apply medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis, prevention and management of diseases.
- Work in wards, emergency room and night shift as well as treating patients, work in tandem with a wide range of other healthcare professionals including nurses, nurse aides, counsellors, health educators, nutritionist assistants, pharmacists and pediatrician.
- Work within a pediatrician’s mentorship.
- Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
- Admitting patients requiring special care followed by investigations and treatment.
- Full medical assessment of patients and fulfilling all medical records as required.
- Make a discharge plan and discharge of admitted patients at right time.
- Liaising with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment.
- Promoting health education.
- Attend meetings, teachings and presentations.
- Conduct and take part in morbidity mortality review.
- Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection, and sterilization of the medical material.
- Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
- Discuss results with the pediatrician (if available) or colleagues and make final decision
- To ensure patients in need of referral are detected early, received first aid treatment before the referral to Bauchi Teaching Hospital or other hospital
- Explain to the nurses what disease the patient has, how the pathophysiology is and why certain therapy is necessary.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Degree, Desirable diploma in Tropical Medicine and valid practicing license to work as a Medical Doctor issued by Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-year experience as a Medical Doctor (can be within medical training). Desirable in tropical medicine, pediatrics, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS/STDs, TB, general practice, general medicine or minor surgery.
Languages:
- Hausa and English Mission language are essential.
