JOB SUMMARY

The Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Specialist provides technical guidance, clinical supervision, and capacity building for staff and implementing partners involved in mental health and psychosocial support interventions. Moreover, they ensure effective implementation and monitoring of psychological interventions in both field and office operations, and promote a culture of compliance and ethics, maintaining a clear understanding of the refugee context, donor compliance, and ethical standards. The MHPS Specialist must uphold the highest level of integrity in all work conducted and communicate MedGlobal Mission, Vision, and Values to staff and partners.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Guidance & Supervision: Provide high-quality technical guidance and clinical supervision for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) aligned with project objectives and global best practices.
  • Program Quality Oversight: Oversee the technical quality of programming and expertise of staff, adhering to international best practices and emerging evidence.
  • Clinical Supervision Network: Create and manage a peer supervisory network for staff offering MHPSS services.
  • Program Development: Participate in the development and implementation of group-based psychosocial programming.
  • Planning & Guidelines: Develop and disseminate plans and guidelines for effective MHPSS strategies tailored to different contexts.
  • Implementation Oversight: Ensure proper planning and implementation of MHPSS interventions in project areas.
  • Grant Management: Ensure interventions are implemented within schedules, plans, and budgets, regularly reviewing project status.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to field teams and partners on approved MHPSS models and approaches.
  • Skill Development: Ensure implementing partners and community workers have the necessary skills and knowledge for household-level psychosocial support.
  • Child-Focused Activities: Support structured MHPSS activities for boys and girls, focusing on survivors of SGBV and children in distress.
  • Respectful Assistance: Ensure assistance to children affected by conflict is dignified, respectful, equitable, and inclusive.
  • Psychological First Aid (PFA): Train staff and partners on PFA to assist children in acute distress.
  • Material Provision: Provide supervision session materials in liaison with the global MHPSS technical advisor.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure compliance with WHO guidelines and inter-agency standards in all interventions.
  • Safety & Reporting: Ensure client care and safety, responding to and reporting safety risks.
  • Proposal & Reporting: Contribute to proposal writing, donor reports, and internal reports.
  • Monitoring Systems: Coordinate and monitor MHPSS programming, ensuring effective documentation and reporting systems.
  • Training & Capacity Building: Conduct regular training and capacity-building sessions for staff on various MHPSS topics and interventions.
  • Strategic Engagement: Represent MedGlobal at coordination meetings, collaborating with government structures and local authorities.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned, ensuring flexibility and high-quality deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Mental Health professional with a Degree in Counseling Psychology, clinical Psychology.
  • Knowledge of public health, protection, human rights, international development, project management or other relevant fields is an added advantage.
  • Clinical experience at community level, either in a research or clinical capacity.
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience in mental health and psychosocial support in humanitarian settings or, one of which must be at a supervisory level.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision in individual and group settings and setting up supervisory models for large-scale MHPSS programs.
  • Experience working with MHPSS Implementing partners in humanitarian settings.
  • Experience conducting MHPSS-related training and development of training materials.
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills and strong g interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments.
  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources.
  • Master of Arts/Science or equivalent in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology, Clinical social work is an added advantage.
  • Training and experience in Problem Management (PM+), Psychological First Aid (PFA), IPT-G, MHGAP.
  • Ability to work in conflict settings.
  • Work experience in humanitarian emergencies or protracted conflict settings
  • Ability to work flexibly and cope with stressful workloads and limited resources.
