In Rwanda, PIH works in partnership with the Government of Rwanda through its sister organization, Inshuti Mu Buzima (IMB), to strengthen public health systems in rural, underserved districts.PIHsupportscomprehensiveservicedeliveryacrossnon-communicablediseases(NCDs), oncology, surgery, and reproductive, maternal, neonatal, adolescent, and child health (RMNACH). Rwinkwavu serves as akeysite forNCD and surgical services, whileKirehedistrict is afocal area for reproductive and maternal health programming.

 

TheNCD&RMNACHResearchManagerwillbebasedprimarilyinRwinkwavubutalsowork regularly in Kirehe district. They will lead and manage research activities across the NCD and RMNACH portfolios, with a focus on NCDs, ensuring scientific rigor, high-quality implementation, and strong integration with clinical and programmatic teams.

 

They will bring strong expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, excellent scientific writing skills, and demonstrated experience managing research projects from

conceptionthroughdissemination.Inaddition,theywillmentorjuniorresearchersandclinicalstaff engaged in research and oversee quality improvement (QI) initiatives across both program areas.

 

 

 

 

2 SPECIFICRESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Research Leadership&Project Management

 

  • Plan,coordinate,andimplementresearchprojectsacrossNCD andRMNACHprograms.
  • Leaddevelopmentofresearchprotocols,studyprocedures,anddatacollectiontoolsin collaboration with principal investigators and program teams.
  • Ensureprojectsmeetmilestones,timelines,anddeliverables.
  • Monitorandmanageprojectbudgetsincollaborationwithfinance teams.
  • Ensureethicalcompliance,datasecurity, andadherencetostudyprotocols.

 

MethodologicalOversight

 

  • Leadandoverseequantitative,qualitative,andmixed-methodsstudydesignand implementation.
  • Ensurehigh-qualitydata collection,management,andanalysis.
  • Superviseandsupportresearchcoordinators,data collectors,andfieldteams.
  • Supportrigorousinterpretationoffindings,integratingclinicalandcontextual perspectives.

 

Writing&Dissemination

 

  • Leadand contributetoabstracts,reports,manuscripts,policybriefsandgrantproposals.
  • Prepareprogressandfinalreportsforinternaland externalstakeholders.
  • Presentfindingstomanagement,MinistryofHealth,partners,andatnationaland international dissemination platforms.

 

Mentorship &Capacity Building

 

  • Mentorjuniorresearchersandclinicalstaffengagedinresearchactivities.
  • Strengthenresearchcapacitywithin IMB,includingtrainingonqualitativeand quantitative methods.
  • Fostera cultureofinquiryandevidence-basedpracticeacross programs.

 

QualityImprovement

 

  • Overseeandsupportqualityimprovement(QI)projectswithinNCDandRMNACH programs.
  • EnsureQIinitiativesaremethodologicallysound,data-driven,andalignedwithprogram priorities.
  • SupporttranslationofQIfindingsintoprogrammaticactionandpolicydiscussions.

 

 

RequiredQualificationsfortheposition

 

  • AdvanceddegreeinPublichealth,nursing,medicine,globalhealth,socialscience,or related field
  • Atleast5 yearsoffull-timeworkingexperienceinresearch,preferablyinglobalhealth contexts.
  • Strongexpertiseinbothquantitativeandqualitativeresearchmethodologies,aswellas mixed-methods studies.
  • Demonstratedexperienceindependentlyleadingresearchprojectsfromdesignthrough analysis and dissemination
  • Strongscientificwriting skills,includingmanuscript andproposal development.
  • Experiencemanagingand supervisingresearchteams andmentoringjunior staff.
  • ExperienceworkingcloselywithcliniciansandprogramteamsinNCDs,surgery, maternal and child health, or related areas.
  • Proficiencyindataanalysissoftware(e.g.,STATA,R, SPSS,MAXQDA,NVivo,or similar) and REDCap.
  • Experienceadministeringsurveysandconductingqualitativedatacollection(e.g., interviews, focus groups, observations).
  • Fluencyin English and Kinyarwanda.
  • Willingnesstoliveandworkinruralsettingsand travelregularlybetweenRwinkwavu and Kirehe.
  • Abilitytoworkbothindependentlyandcollaborativelyinamultidisciplinary environment.
