Focus on our activities in Honduras

PUI is starting its activities in Honduras, with a first project financed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project will take place in the Department of Ocotepeque, for the provision of primary health services, sexual and reproductive health and mental health for women and children crossing the border with Guatemala or living in the area.

And the Psychologist in all this?

As a psychologist, he works developing psychosocial support activities for the indicated beneficiaries within the First International Emergency catchment area (PUI). The psychologist provides emergency emotional support, in collaboration with psychosocial teams. The psychologist is responsible for the identification of people with psychological problems, provides psychological first aid and emotional support in a trauma sensitive way and adapted to the emergency context. Pay attention to the most vulnerable or support activities for children, when necessary. The psychologist follows the international recommendations and good practices of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (SMAPS) in the humanitarian context, the SOPs and the PUI SMAPS Intervention Framework.

For this, your responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Work closely with the team, launch SMAPS activities in close collaboration with the program team, and report challenges and possible solutions. .
  • Be respectful of beneficiaries and their families, treating all people equally without discrimination, and guaranteeing confidentiality and obtaining consent at all times.
  • Maintaining a focus on promoting mental health and improving access to relevant services through internal and external referrals ensures monitoring and information sharing.

What you will need to succeed

Training:

  • Lic. In Psychology .

Preferably:

  • Mastery.
  • Training in Psychological First Aid (PFA) (and / or Formation of Formators (ToT)).
  • Basic concepts of gender violence (GBV).
  • Knowledge of issues related to trauma and emergency psychology.

Experience:

  • More than 2 years of clinical experience in mental health, with an emphasis on working with vulnerable populations.
  • Preferably with previous experience in humanitarian organizations.

Competences:

  • Able to work in unstable circumstances and stressful environments.
  • Willing and able to be on the field daily.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of local idioms / terms for symptoms of different mental health problems.
  • Knowledge of local areas and community structures.

Qualities:

  • Problem and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and respect for people with special needs.
  • Teamwork capacity and stress resistance.
