Job Purpose as Senior Global Advocacy Advisor Maternity Cover

We are recruiting a highly skilled Senior Advocacy professional to provide regular detailed analysis for country reporting to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role within international development. They will provide a seamless service in the delivery of specific analysis for the development of briefing documents related to engagement with other treaty bodies. Technical assistance given to support the development of submissions to multilateral agencies, such as the African development bank to ensure disability inclusion is embedded in their work.

Principal Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting country analysis on countries under review by the CRPD Committee (6 countries in total). Delivering 3-page summaries based on the reporting from each country to the CRPD and the policy analysis carried out by our policy team and 2 pages of analysis with recommended questions for use at review stage by the Global Advocacy Manager – Social Inclusion.
  • Providing technical assistance to Country Offices and OPD’s up for review by the CRPD in July/August. Working closely with the Senior Global Advocacy Advisor to support Liberia, Malawi and Kenya.
  • Supporting with the development of a briefing document on engagement with other treaty bodies, providing specific analysis on the work of other treaty bodies.
  • Providing technical assistance and in-puts in the development of submissions to multilateral agencies to ensure disability inclusion in the work of such agencies.
  • Assisting the country offices in engagement with the UN on UNDIS, World Bank and USAID country teams when required.

Essential:

  • Relevant academic qualifications in advocacy and policy influencing
  • Experience working in a similar role within international development
  • Experience of UN expert committee review processes
  • Understanding of development issues and knowledge of current issues and best practice within international development
  • Strong advocacy and communication at senior level
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to think strategically
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Current and ongoing right to work in Ghana

This will be a two-stage recruitment process. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a virtual interview lasting one hour.
