ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
FHI 360 is a nonprofit human development organization dedicated to improving lives in lasting ways by advancing integrated, locally driven solutions. FHI 360 serves more than 70 countries, all 50 U.S. states, and all U.S. territories. FHI 360’s Crisis Response team has been responding to the humanitarian emergency in Northern Ethiopia through an integrated health, nutrition, WASH, and Protection project to meet the critical needs of the conflict-affected population. FHI 360 is also operating in Somali Region in Eastern Ethiopia to meet the immediate needs of the drought-affected population and is implementing integrated humanitarian programming with the Ethiopia-based national organization, Pastoralist Concern (PC).
POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the supervision of the Health Coordinator, the Senior Health and nutrition Officer is responsible for overseeing all start-up health and nutrition activities under the FHI 360 sub-office. S/he will be responsible for managing Health and Nutrition staff, sub-office coordination, cross-sector collaboration, and general management of the sub-office’s Health and Nutrition implementation. S/he will provide technical guidance to ensure that program implementation adheres to appropriate international technical standards and guidelines are technically sound.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES
Program Management:
- Oversees the implementation of integrated health and nutrition project in two Zones of North Wollo and Waghimra and ensures that the quality standards and state of the art are met.
- Ensures effective start-up, management, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of integrated health, and nutrition projects in three words.
- Provide support and guidance to the project team and implementing partners; assess training needs, plan & provide training/guidance for staff in setting up new OTP and SC sites and PHC/RMNCH services and IYCF activities.
- Facilitate training for health professionals in Community based Management of Acute Malnutrition, PHC and IYCF.
- Participating in and/or leading health, nutrition, and/or multi-sectoral assessments as required.
- Manages all FHI360 resources (equipment, supplies, HR) committed to emergency and other nutrition activities
- Conducts regular field visits to provide supportive supervision to the projects.
- Leads the development of work plans, POPs, budgets, and other required program documents for integrated health and nutrition projects in three woredas.
- Closely work with the finance and program team to ensure that program budgets are realistic, that they are efficiently used complying with donor requirements, and that reports are submitted promptly.
- Conducts regular field visits and review meetings with government officials to monitor the implementation of integrated health and nutrition programs.
Representation and communication
- Represents FHI360 in Regional and Zonal level nutrition and health coordination and other forums.
- Documents findings and recommendations of field visits for follow-up actions; shares as appropriate.
- Oversees and leads the development and submission of program reports, ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness for three woredas.
- Documents lessons learned in specific technical areas of the woredas.
Staff and Budget Management
- Manage the health and nutrition team in the intervention areas.
- Conduct regular performance management. This includes work plans and performance reviews.
- Engages in the recruitment process of staff for the project as necessary.
- Performs other related tasks as required
Applied Knowledge & Skills:
- Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
- Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English, fluent in host country language as appropriate.
- Basic knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures with project design.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite software.
- Ability to problem solve and recommend corrective action as needed.
- Strong organizational and attention to detail needed to adhere to project deadlines.
- Effective communications in information shared by ensuring attention is paid to the specific components (i.e., formatting) of the communication, successful delivery and accountability for specific components (i.e., keeping timelines updated).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor or post-graduate degree in public health and related field.
- Minimum 6 years of field experience in humanitarian work, including significant experience in managing integrated projects.
- Excellent leadership, coordination and management experience.
- Knowledge of the latest health-related technical guidelines and standards in emergency nutrition and health.
- NGO Experience in CMAM/IYCF and PHC/RMNCH/IMNCI
- Experience in budget management, report writing and computer skills
- Experience in quality assurance in a clinical setting is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability for leadership and independent decision-making
- Strong interpersonal skills & excellent team player.
- Willingness and ability to work in a hardship environment.
- Cultural and gender sensitivity
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic
