ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme is the largest humanitarian agency in the world that fights hunger. The mission of WFP is to’help the world achieve the’ Zero Hunger goal in our lives. Every day, WFP works around the world to ensure that NO child goes to bed empty-bellied and that the poorest and most vulnerable, especially women and children, can have access to the nutritious food they need.

JUSTIFICATION OF POST

Malnutrition remains a public health problem in the DRC and is one of the leading causes of infant mortality. About 45% of deaths in children under the age of 5 are attributable to malnutrition.

Central Kasai and Eastern Kasai are characterized by household food insecurity and a high prevalence of global acute malnutrition, about 13.1% in the Demba territory, 8.3% in the Lupatapata territory, 14.7% in the Dimbelenge territory and 11.3% in the Miabi territory.

In response to the situation described above, WFP, through its cooperation partners, has been carrying out activities since 2017 to prevent and treat moderate acute malnutrition among specific groups (children aged 6 to 23 months, 6 to 59 months and among pregnant and/or lactating women).

The WFP office, through its RAM and nutrition sections, is planning follow-up missions to ensure that standards are met in the implementation of the nutrition assistance programme.

The Kananga office seeks to recruit one/one intern to support the monitoring and evaluation of nutrition activities, including the TSFP, BSFP, ANJE and community initiatives. This internship will provide valuable learning opportunities while contributing to the effective coordination of field activities. The/the trainee will work for a period of 6 months.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager and the Nutrition Technical Supervisor, the/the trainee will perform the following tasks:

  • To assist in the development and implementation of the various activities related to nutrition.
  • Contribute to the management of nutrition projects to ensure that the various activities are carried out in accordance with the WFP plan and guidelines.
  • Assist in ensuring accurate and timely recording of nutrition data and ensuring consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions to conduct accurate food security analyses and ensure effective care delivery.
  • Participate in field visits to identify problems and help provide solutions or report them to the Technical Supervisor.
  • Participate in discussions on integrating nutrition-sensitive interventions into other WFP interventions (School Food, SFM and CBT, etc.).
  • Perform any other tasks requested by the supervisor as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Training :

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate (license) or graduate (master’s) program at a recognized university OR recently graduated from a bachelor’s or master’s program (within six months prior to the application) at a recognized university ;
  • Attendance of university courses in the last 12 months ;
  • Higher university degree in the field of public health or nutrition, or any other relevant degree.

Language :

  • Mastery (level C) of the spoken and written French language.
  • Knowledge of English is an asset.

Knowledge & skills :

  • Knowledge of nutrition programs and data analysis.
  • Understanding the relationship between food security and nutrition.
  • Strong research skills with mastery of data analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks related to nutrition.
  • Provide technical support and advice to the nutrition team in the evaluation, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of nutritional care programs.

COMPONENTS OF THE TRAINING

Throughout their mission, WFP interns have access to a state-of-the-art learning platform, WeLearn. Depending on the possibilities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the internship, the intern should have :

  • Develop an understanding of WFP’s vision for nutrition interventions, with a multisectoral approach promoting the integration of nutrition with other nutrition-sensitive sectors.
  • Gain hands-on experience in supporting nutrition programs, including data collection, analysis, and research.
  • Learn in a concrete way the design and implementation of nutrition-related projects in a humanitarian context.Strengthen analytical and research skills for the preparation of reports, presentations and teaching materials.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to a maximum of 1000 dollars per month depending on the duty station.
  • WFP is not responsible for the cost of living, accommodation and related costs.
  • WFP will recognise the diplomas of applicants from recognised institutions who have been certified by relevant international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or ministries of education.
  • Candidates who have any of the following links with WFP staff members are not eligible to apply not eligible: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
  • This course is only open to Congolese nationals.
