Responsibilities and Duties
- Clean, prepare, and sterilize medical instruments and equipment in accordance with approved procedures and standards.
- Receive, sort, and prepare used medical instruments and supplies for cleaning and sterilization.
- Operate sterilization equipment and monitor sterilization cycles according to approved operating procedures.
- Verify the effectiveness of sterilization processes using chemical and biological indicators in accordance with established procedures.
- Prepare and package medical instruments and equipment prior to sterilization in a manner that ensures their safety and maintains sterility.
- Store sterilized instruments and supplies in an organized and safe manner.
- Monitor the validity and integrity of sterilized items and ensure they are protected from contamination.
- Prepare and distribute sterilized instruments to different departments according to their needs.
- Strictly adhere to infection prevention and control and occupational safety procedures when handling contaminated instruments.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the sterilization area and work equipment.
- Accurately document sterilization processes, cycles, tests, and required records.
- Report any malfunction of sterilization equipment or any issue that may affect the safety and effectiveness of the sterilization process.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures and infection prevention and control standards.
- Perform any other related duties within the scope of practice according to the needs of the department.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Previous experience in a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) or infection prevention and control.
- Good knowledge of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization methods for medical instruments.
- Ability to operate and monitor various sterilization equipment.
- Strict adherence to infection prevention and control and occupational safety procedures.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and under pressure.
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong sense of responsibility when handling medical instruments.
- Willingness to work shifts according to the hospital’s needs.
