The post
The head of communications and advocacy reports to the Regional Director of the West Africa hub. This position serves as the lead for all hub communications functions.
Professional relationships
Reporting to the Regional Director of the West Africa Hub, the manager will work closely with the rest of the West Africa team. He/She will also work closely with the headquarters communications team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Executive communications projects for the Hub, including managing the production of all Hub communications materials;
- Ensure consistent language, tone and branding across all external products and platforms, working closely with the HQ communications team;
- Lead the development of communication and branding materials;
- Lead the production of the West Africa hub’s annual progress report, in close collaboration with project managers;
- Launch and develop the content of the new West Africa website;
- Develop content for communications materials such as web articles, opinion pieces, press releases, fact sheets, talking points and event reports, as required;
- Manage social media pages and regularly post updates to increase visibility of our programs;
- Work with the Hub team to support the team’s communications priorities and to amplify the region’s successes;
- Perform any other task assigned by the supervisor.
Required skills and experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of education required, preferably in communications, digital media, journalism, international relations, global health or other directly related field.
Experience
- At least 3 to 5 years of professional experience in public health;
- An interest and passion for global health communications;
- Experience in communication and process management to successfully meet product schedule and quality standards;
- Experience in developing and implementing social media strategies.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Strong critical thinking, decision-making and project management skills;
- Excellent writing, editing, interpersonal and oral communication skills;
- Team player with an adaptable and pragmatic work approach, able to work independently as well as in a team;
- Strong time management and prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines and achieve goals on time despite time constraints and pressure situations;
- Ability to think strategically and contribute to the management of projects from their creation to their implementation;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural competence;
- Written and oral command of English and French;
Personal competence
Politically astute with a good understanding of the big picture, culturally sensitive and diplomatic.
