Health Advisor (m/f/d) At Doctors of the World



Doctors of the World is the German section of the international humanitarian organization Médecins du Monde/Doctors of the World. Doctors of the World is committed to ensuring that everyone everywhere can assert their right to health – with medical help and political work.

The “International Programs” department currently consists of a team of seven who are responsible for the financing and administrative implementation of projects in the network as well as for supporting the humanitarian aid projects implemented by Doctors of the World.

We are looking for a health consultant for our Munich location at the earliest possible date . The specialist advisor will support the team in the office as well as the project teams in Ukraine and Ethiopia in the development and implementation of high-quality programs in the area of ​​basic health care and doctors of the world in both the German and international professional public, as well as within of the MdM network.

The full-time position (40 hours per week) is initially limited to 2 years with the option of a permanent contract afterwards.

YOUR FUTURE WORK AREAS

Project development and intervention logic

  • Supporting the project teams and the responsible state representatives in the development of high-quality projects in the area of ​​basic health care, e.g. B. through analysis of health-related data as well as expert advice on the logic of effects and definition of relevant indicators.
  • Contribute to the definition/revision of Doctors of the World strategies in existing and new country programs in accordance with the Doctors of the World vision and guiding principles and existing national/international plans and standards.
  • Close cooperation with the Doctors of the World teams in Germany and the project locations in creating budgets for newly planned projects, especially with regard to the procurement plan for important medicines and/or the creation of the personnel structure of the medical team.
  • Advice on the creation of a MEAL system to measure the impact and quality of the implemented measures and to harmonize the collection and evaluation of health-related data in the projects.
  • Participation in needs assessments in selected humanitarian contexts.
    Occasional support for the Doctors of the World domestic program.

Specialist advice, quality assurance and knowledge management

  • Monitoring the quality, results and successes of the health programs implemented.
  • Development of an internal frame of reference, protocols and tools for the planning and implementation of high-quality healthcare projects.
  • Advising the project staff in the field and the team in Germany on specific topics and questions during project implementation, e.g. B. Approval of drug procurement or support in the selection and hiring of medical project personnel.
  • Reviewing technical reports and project documents and assisting in the preparation of scientific articles.
  • Contribution to strengthening the technical know-how of employees through targeted training, continuous coaching and specialist advice.
  • Participation in the analysis and capitalization of experiences from project implementation and documentation of relevant lessons learned.
  • Support project teams in investigations and needs assessments by reviewing the investigation design and analyzing the results.
  • Support Doctors of the World medical coordinators in existing and future country programs.
  • Carrying out internal evaluations of the projects.

Coordination and representation

  • If necessary and relevant, representing doctors of the world at external and internal specialist meetings and conferences.
  • Networking with other organizations in the relevant subject area to develop synergy potential.
  • Participation in the public relations work of Doctors of the World by providing project-related data and writing written communications and articles.

YOUR PROFILE

Your professional profile

  • Completed medical degree or training in a medical profession with clinical experience
  • Completed postgraduate studies in Global Health/Public Health/International Health
  • At least 5 years of experience in project development and implementation in a resource-poor environment, ideally in a humanitarian context.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar position with at least 2 years of experience abroad
  • Expertise in basic health care (including experience, emergency medical care, sexual and reproductive health, and psychosocial and mental health)
  • Very good knowledge of analyzing and interpreting health-related data.
  • Experience in submitting applications and managing publicly funded projects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with various stakeholders, including local implementation partners.
  • Excellent analytical and strategic skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken German and English skills. French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel on business (approx. 20% of annual working time is spent on project visits).
