Job Title: Medical Officer – Behavioral & Mental Health

Job Summary
- The Medical Officer plays a critical role in delivering compassionate, timely, and evidence-based medical care to patients with psychiatric, psychological, and behavioral health conditions.
- This position supports the day-to-day clinical functions of the Behavioral Center, including patient evaluations, medication management, and interdepartmental coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive physical and psychiatric assessments of patients upon admission and during reviews
- Assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, substance abuse, and others
- Monitor patients’ medical and mental health status and report any significant changes to the Consultant Psychiatrist
- Prescribe and administer medications under supervision and in line with clinical protocols
- Handle emergencies and medical complications that may arise within the behavioral unit
- Collaborate with psychologists, psychiatric nurses, therapists, social workers, and other allied professionals to deliver holistic patient care
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in patient records (manual and electronic)
- Participate in ward rounds, case discussions, and clinical audits
- Provide counseling and support to patients and families on mental health awareness, treatment compliance, and recovery planning
- Contribute to the development and implementation of patient care plans and discharge summaries
- Uphold all ethical, safety, and confidentiality standards as outlined by the hospital and relevant medical regulatory bodies.
Requirements
- MBBS Degree from a recognized Medical School
- At least 3-5 years of post-NYSC clinical experience (mental health experience is an advantage)
- Full registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)
- NYSC discharge or exemption certificate
- Strong interest in behavioral health and psychiatry
- Excellent diagnostic, analytical, and clinical decision-making skills
- Ability to remain calm and empathetic in high-pressure situations
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications, patient monitoring protocols, and crisis intervention techniques
- Proficient in the use of basic medical software or EMR systems.
Salary
N400,000 Monthly.
