Introduction

Context and organizational scope
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Agency for Migration, is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM promotes the orderly and humane management of migration, boosts international cooperation on migration issues, supports practical solutions to emerging challenges and provides humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including internally displaced persons.

  1. Provide individual, family and group psychological support to people affected by the earthquake, in accordance with SMAPS protocols and IOM guidelines.  
  2. Apply Psychological First Aid (PAP) and other brief evidence-based interventions for people affected by the emergency.  
  3. Identify signs and symptoms of common mental disorders, acute stress reactions, anxiety, depression, grief and other priority mental health conditions, ensuring timely referral of cases requiring specialized care.  
  4. Participate in rapid mental health needs assessments and psychosocial support in affected communities, health facilities, transitional camps, temporary shelters and other spaces where the population affected by the earthquake is located.  
  5. Implement community activities of psychosocial support, emotional well-being, resilience, social cohesion and early recovery for communities affected by the seismic event.  
  6. Design and facilitate group sessions, psychoeducational activities, emotional support spaces and activities to promote psychosocial well-being adapted to different population groups.  
  7. Work in a coordinated and complementary manner with the Social Worker of the Mobile Psychosocial Team to identify needs, comprehensive case management and develop person-centered care plans.  
  8. Actively participate in case analysis, joint planning and interdisciplinary monitoring meetings with the Social Worker and other members of the Mobile Psychosocial Team.  
  9. Coordinate with the Social Worker the reference and counter-reference processes for people with mental health, protection, social assistance or other specialized services needs.  
  10. Identify people with protection risks, gender-based violence, sexual violence, child protection or other vulnerable situations and activate the corresponding institutional routes in coordination with the social worker and protective teams.  
  11. Support the periodic updating of the mapping of mental health services, psychosocial support, protection and other specialized services available in the areas of intervention.  
  12. Contribute to community awareness activities related to emotional well-being, healthy coping, self-care, strengthening support networks and access to services.  
  13. Support training and guidance processes for community promoters, health personnel and other local actors on issues of Psychological First Aid, emotional well-being, early detection of psychosocial needs and reference mechanisms.  
  14. Timely record the activities carried out and the information of the people served using the institutional tools defined by the IOM, guaranteeing the confidentiality of the information.  
  15. Participate in coordination, planning, monitoring and learning meetings of the Psychosocial Mobile Team and emergency response.  
  16. Contribute to the preparation of periodic reports on activities carried out, identified needs, observed trends and results achieved by the Psychosocial Mobile Team.  
  17. Promote self-care, healthy stress management, and emotional well-being practices among those served and affected communities.  
  18. Respect and apply the humanitarian principles, action without harm, confidentiality, protection and professional ethics established by IOM. 
  19. Perform other related tasks that are necessary to meet the objectives of the emergency response.

Required qualifications and experience

Education

  • University degree Bachelor of Psychology issued by an accredited academic institution, with two years of relevant professional experience; either
  • Secondary education diploma (baccalaureate), with four years of relevant professional experience.
  • You must submit: Copy of the Psychology Degree, as well as Registration in the Federation of Psychologists of Venezuela and the Solvency of the College of Psychologists of the state where you will practice 

Accredited universities are those that appear in the  UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Previous mandatory experience in SMAPS approach, community work and team coordination.
  • Experience in emergency response, community health and work on mobile health days that integrate protection approaches in urban and/or rural areas will be positively valued.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the principles of humanitarian action and architecture, inter-institutional coordination and emergency response    
  • Familiarity with international humanitarian standards, including the Sphere Handbook and other frameworks applicable to health interventions in emergencies.    
  • Advanced use of the Office package, digital tools for data collection, monitoring and reporting, including Kobo Toolbox, and collaborative platforms.    
  • Ability to apply person-, community- and human rights-centred approaches in health service delivery. 

Languages

All IOM staff, in all categories, must be fluent in at least one of the official IOM languages (English, French or Spanish)

Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) is required for this position.

Desirable: Practical knowledge of English

Proficiency in the required language(s) will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written tests and/or oral evaluations.
