General Description of the Programme:
GOAL has been working in Syria since 2013, responding to the acute needs of conflict-affected communities. GOAL is working in Idleb Governate, both through direct implementation and through partners, delivering food, non-food programming to highly vulnerable populations, and provision of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) through support to Water units, as well as emergency support to recently displaced households.

GOAL’s nutrition program was launched in 2021 reaching caregivers of children under 5, pregnant and lactating women, and women of reproductive age with family mid-upper arm circumference approach (FMA), Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition messages, blanket distribution of lipid-based nutrition supplements, and Cash and Voucher Assistance for improving nutrition outcomes. All nutrition beneficiaries reached are also benefitting from GOAL’s largescale Food Security programme either by in-kind food kit or CVA distributions. GOAL also implements nutrition programming through local partnerships that provide Community Management of Acute Malnutrition.
The Goal Nutrition Program was launched in 2021 to reach caregivers of children under five, pregnant and lactating women, and women of childbearing age with MUAC measurement, maternal, infant and young child nutrition messaging, mass distribution of lipid supplements, and cash assistance and vouchers. To improve nutrition results. All nutrition beneficiaries reached also benefit from Goal’s large-scale food security program either through in-kind food basket distributions or cash assistance and voucher distributions. Goal also implements nutrition programs through local partnerships that provide community-based management of acute malnutrition.
Job purpose:
The Nutrition Community Worker is responsible for the direct implementation of activities under GOAL’s nutrition activities in Northern Syria. The Nutrition Community Worker, together with the Nutrition Officer and other members of the Nutrition team, will provide technical support to beneficiaries to contribute to the reduction of malnutrition and the realization of positive nutrition outcomes for the projects. The aim is for the Nutrition Community Worker to build capacity in people which will allow them to understand the causes, prevention methods and treatment of malnutrition for children U5s and PLW, at household level. The Nutrition Community Worker will also be responsible for regular nutrition service mapping in GOAL and its partners area of operation and establishing and maintaining a referral mechanism under the direction of the Nutrition Officer between GOAL’s other programmes e.g., food security and nutrition and between GOAL and partners or external actors.
The Nutrition Community Worker will report to the Nutrition Officer and will be responsible for ensuring project activities are achieved within agreed timeframes, budgets and according to GOAL’s standards and donor regulations. He/she will contribute to robust process and impact monitoring and support the adaptive management of the nutrition programme.
:Purpose of the job
The Community Nutrition Worker is responsible for the direct implementation of activities under Goal’s nutrition activities in northern Syria. The Community Nutrition Worker, together with the Nutrition Officer and other members of the nutrition team, will provide technical support to beneficiaries to contribute to reducing malnutrition and achieving positive nutrition outcomes for the projects. The goal is for community nutrition workers to build capacity among people which will allow them to understand the causes and ways to prevent and treat malnutrition for children under five and pregnant and lactating women, at the household level. The Community Nutrition Worker will also be responsible for mapping the regular nutrition service in JOL and its partners’ work area and establishing and maintaining a referral mechanism under the supervision of the Nutrition Officer among other JOL programmes, e.g. Food security and nutrition and between Goal and partners or third parties.
The Community Nutrition Worker will report to the Nutrition Officer and will be responsible for ensuring that project activities are achieved within agreed timeframes and budgets and in accordance with GOL standards and donor regulations. Will contribute to robust process and impact monitoring and support adaptive management of the nutrition programme.
Duties, objectives and competencies:
- Disseminate key tailored messages that will support improved maternal, infant and young child feeding and care practices in the community
- Assist in the development and Distribute communication products (leaflets/SMS messages/community announcements as appropriate) on what the LNS-SQ is, who it is for, and why it is important for children aged 6-59 months to consume it daily and not share it with other members of the household.
- Provide context specific training to households with U5 and/or PLW, on how to identify acute malnutrition at home and the appropriate actions to take if malnutrition is identified
- Distribute and monitor the distribution of MUAC tapes to target families, ensuring HH have received and are able to use the tape and identify acute malnutrition correctly
- Ensure that HHs are aware of where to access available therapeutic care services when acute malnutrition is identified and monitor if they are successful in receiving access and therapeutic care services, if required.
- Conduct refresher training as necessary for households
- Working with GOAL’s field-based Social Workers refer cases of acute malnutrition to local health actors and follow-up on the referred cases.
- Conduct home visits for problem cases (i.e., absentees, defaulters, non-response to treatment) and encourage return to service.
- Collect data for the nutrition service mapping in GOAL and partner locations and ensure it is routinely updated so the referral information provided to beneficiaries is accurate.
- Under the supervision of the Nutrition Officer establish and monitor referrals between GOAL internal programmes, between GOAL and its partners, particularly its partners that provide nutrition services and also referrals between GOAL & its partners and external Nutrition actors.
- Ensure that all relevant information is collected for reporting purposes on a timely basis, and compile regular monitoring reports, as agreed with the Nutrition Manager
- Ensure that policies and guidelines as laid down in GOAL manuals and policies are adhered to at all times
- Ensure adherence to GOAL’s Code of Conduct and Child Protection Policy and standards of integrity, as well as uphold GOAL’s whistleblowing mechanisms.

- Distribute and monitor the distribution of MOAC strips to targeted families, ensuring that the family has received and is able to use the strip and correctly identify acute malnutrition
- Ensure that families are aware of where to access available therapeutic care services when acute malnutrition is identified and monitor whether they are successful in receiving access and therapeutic care services, if necessary.

- Work with GOL field social workers to refer acute malnutrition cases to local health authorities and follow up on the referred cases.

- Under the supervision of the Nutrition Officer, create and monitor referrals between internal JOL programmes, between JOL and its partners, in particular its partners who provide nutrition services and also referrals between JOL, its partners and external actors in the field of nutrition.

- Ensure adherence to policies and guidelines as set out in JUUL manuals and policies at all times

Requirements (essential):
- At least third year university student or institute Certificate in relevant field (nutrition, health, biomedical science, general science, or related relevant degrees)
- Minimum 2-year experience of working in community health or nutrition interventions related to Pregnant and Lactating Women and children Under 5. The candidate should have this experience as team member or any relevant position.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience of working in NGOs.
- Female only.
- Good communication skills (written, spoken), including writing skills in Arabic.
- Confident presentation and facilitation skills, proven record in provision of trainings.
- Willingness to live and work in Aleppo, Syria at least five days a week.
