About the position:

The Senior MHPSS and Protection Program Manager will provide support to the MHPSS field team in Poland to ensure smooth coordination and program quality and lead safeguarding and protection-mainstreaming planning and implementation within Americares regional Ukraine response.

Key Outcomes:

In the first 90 days, the Senior Manager will:

  • Become familiar with Americares Ukraine Response activities, including MHPSS partners and activities supported through grants.
  • Understand the MHPSS needs in Ukraine by attending Cluster meetings and coordination calls.
  • Work closely with Americares MHPSS Support Officer
  • Oversee management of the Amerisource-Bergen funded MHPSS project, including coordination with internal and external stakeholders for development and delivery of MHPSS e-learning resources
  • Become familiar with medicine security work of Americares to best calibrate protection mainstreaming and safeguarding recommendations.

In the first 6 months, the Senior Manager will:

  • Serve as the final backstop on all grant packages to ensure technical MHPSS and protection quality and alignment with international humanitarian standards.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the urgent and long-term MHPSS needs in Ukraine and how partners can best meet them.
  • Speak confidently about the portfolio of MHPSS partners, present to Americares staff about integrating Safeguarding and Projection into medicine security work with concrete examples.
  • Research potential fundraising sources that Americares can tap into to support long-term MHPSS work.

In the first year, the Senior Manager will:

  • Provide a long-term planning document on how Americares can meet the MHPSS needs of the most vulnerable populations in Ukraine through our partnership network.
  • Report on the Amerisource Bergen grant activities and propose projects for additional funding opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • MHPSS team leadership and supervision – supervise MHPSS staff and consultants to ensure all MHPSS and S&P deliverables are met and to ensure technical quality of MHPSS activities
  • Grants & partner management – serve as the final backstop on all grant packages to ensure technical MHPSS and protection quality and alignment with international humanitarian standards
  • Safeguarding & Protection Technical Assistance & Capacity Building – meet with all Ukraine partners to discuss protection mainstreaming and safeguarding and identify needs and risks
  • Thought Partner – foster discussions among staff regarding safeguarding and protection mainstreaming to reinforce the concepts and identify opportunities to strengthen Americares approach and contribute to identifying emerging protection risks and underserved populations for potential Americares support.
  • M&E and Reporting – ensure timely monitoring and evaluation for all MHPSS and S&P activities in close coordination with other members of the Ukraine response team and M&E
  • Other duties as assigned

We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have an advanced degree in social work, psychology, or related disciplines with coursework in mental health and psychosocial support programming in humanitarian or low resource settings.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in mental health and psychosocial support programming with significant experience in disaster and/or humanitarian crisis contexts globally.
  • You have a deep understanding of Ukraine and/Poland, and speak Ukrainian and/or Polish (preferred)
  • You have demonstrated experience in program management, grants management, coordination, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • You have a proven track record in developing strategies, designing programs, and conducing training and providing technical assistance in MHPSS and Safeguarding and Protection.
  • You are an experienced trainer and have experience developing MHPSS curricula, community-based psychosocial support initiatives, and Psychological First Aid/MHPSS capacity building.
  • You have a demonstrated track record and commitment to treating affected persons with respect and dignity, and uphold the highest standards of conduct in working with affected populations, including enabling their participation and support.
  • You have experience working with sensitive matters and a demonstrated ability to be confidential, discrete, and build and maintain trust.
  • You have a high level of resilience and are able to remain partial, calm, and adaptable under difficult circumstances.
  • You have experience fostering discussions among a globally diverse staff (preferred).
  • You have experience monitoring trends and presenting emerging risks for consideration (preferred).
  • You have experience working in a globally matrixed and highly collaborative environment.
  • You have excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • You have language skills in at least one of our core languages, other than English: Spanish, Tagalog, Hindi, Kiswahili, Haitian Creole (this would be a plus, but is not a requirement)
  • You have US work authorization (required)
