FUNCTION :
Ensure the care and medical follow-up of patients placed under his responsibility at the Brenda Strafford Institute. In coordination with the Medical Director, provide ophthalmology consultations, perform ophthalmology surgeries, and provide medical care for patients in emergency departments and hospitalizations.

The Institut Brenda Strafford has operated as a family since 1982, in its charitable mission to provide high quality professional ophthalmology and otolaryngology (ENT) services, centered on person, to improve the lives of people in Haiti. Our values are: people first, quality, commitment, leadership and compassion. In collaboration with the MSPP, the Institute generally performs more than 55,000 consultations, 2,000 surgeries and offers 150 student internships per year. Services include consultation, surgery, emergency and hospital care, pharmacy, medical laboratory, specialized eye and ear testing, optometric services and community activities.
RESPONSIBILITY AND TASKS RELATED TO THE FUNCTION:
- Participating in the activities organized in his department, acting as a key contributor to the pursuit by the Institute of its mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.
- Ensure the provision of medical care for patients in outpatient departments, emergencies, surgeries, and hospitalization.
- Perform daily rounds of hospitalized patients with serious pathologies.
- Maintain medical records (evolution of patients and medical prescriptions)
- Participate in the development and implementation of treatment protocols.
- Participate in the training of general medicine students and ophthalmology residents.
- Participate in the rotation of weekly guards.
- Contribute to the scientific activities of the Institute (i.e., make presentations, etc.).
- Ensure administrative tasks related to the function of doctor.
- Participate in the research and development of new projects within the establishment.
- Be honest and responsible with a sense of responsibility and leadership.
- Perform any other task related to his function or assigned by his supervisor.
Qualifications required
- Holder of a doctorate in medicine and a diploma of specialization in ophthalmology
- Language: French and Haitian Creole (Preferred), English or Spanish would be a plus.
The institute will offer competitive compensation and provide food and lodging free of charge (one private room) at the residence adjoining the institute.

En coordination avec le Directeur Médical, Assurer les consultations d’ophtalmologie, réaliser des interventions chirurgicales d’ophtalmologie, et dispenser des soins médicaux pour les patients en services urgences, et en hospitalisation.

L’Institut Brenda Strafford fonctionne comme une famille depuis 1982, dans sa mission caritative de fournir des services professionnels d’ophtalmologie et d’oto-rhino-laryngologie (ORL) de haute qualité, centrés sur la personne, pour améliorer la vie des gens en Haïti. Nos valeurs sont : les gens d’abord, la qualité, l’engagement, le leadership et la compassion. En collaboration avec le MSPP, l’Institut effectue en général plus de 55 000 consultations, 2 000 chirurgies et offre 150 stages étudiants par an. Les services comprennent la consultation, la chirurgie, les soins d’urgence et hospitaliers, la pharmacie, le laboratoire médical, les tests spécialisés des yeux et des oreilles, les services d’optométrie et des activités communautaires.
RESPONSABILITÉ ET TÂCHES RELIÉES À LA FONCTION :
1. Participer aux activités organisées dans son service, agir en tant que contributeur clé à la poursuite par l’Institut de sa mission, vision, valeurs et objectifs stratégiques.
2. Assurer la dispensation des soins médicaux pour les patients en services ambulatoires, aux urgences, chirurgies, et en hospitalisation.
3. Effectuer les tournées journalières des patients hospitalisés atteints de pathologies graves.
4. Tenir à jour les dossiers médicaux (évolution des patients et ordonnances médicales)
5. Participer à l’élaboration et à la mise en œuvre des protocoles de soin.
6. Participer à la formation des étudiants en médecine générale et des résidents d’ophtalmologie.
7. Participer au roulement des gardes hebdomadaires.
8. Contribuer aux activités scientifiques de l’Institut (c.-à-d. faire des présentations, etc.).
9. Assurer les tâches administratives relevant de la fonction de médecin.
10. Participer à la recherche et l’élaboration de nouveaux projets au sein de l’établissement.
11. Être intègre et responsable avec un sens de responsabilité et de leadership.
12. Exécuter toute autre tâche liée à sa fonction ou assigné par son superviseur.
Qualifications requises
· Titulaire d’un doctorat en médecine et d’un diplôme de spécialisation en ophtalmologie
· Langue : Français et Créole haïtien (De préférence), l’Anglais ou l’Espagnol serait un plus.
L’institut offrira une compensation compétitive et fournira la nourriture et le logement sans frais (une chambre privée) à la résidence attenante à l’Institut.
