We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Information, Education, Communication Health Pro-motion (IECHP) Manager

Location: Abakaliki, Ebonyi
Contract Period: Indefinite

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Defining, coordinating and monitoring all the IEC (Information, Education, Communication) Health Pro-motion activities in the project and promoting MSF services according to MSF principles, protocols and standards in order to increase the knowledge of the target population around their health, the support of preventive activities and the collaboration to improve the services:

Defining and updating the HP/IEC strategy and related activities through annual project and budget plan (objectives, target population, campaigns, messages, activities, specific actions, etc.).

Assessing knowledge of the target group on a health risk and analysing the context (local culture, traditions, habits, health perception) to adapt health activities and support the social mapping (villages, populations, actors), Identifying indicators in order to monitor HP activities results and achievement and using the concrete tools to measure and follow up those activities

Assessing, developing and adapting IEC/HP materials according to the needs of the project. Ensuring content and format have been pre-tested with target groups in order to ensure the adequacy, relevance, full understanding of the messages. Leading focus-group discussions with target groups in order to ensure the adequacy, relevance, broadcasting and full awareness of the messages, ensuring they are worded in a pedagogic manner

Liaising with other relevant actors (national and International NGO’s, authorities) also involved in prevention activities, analysing interventions and building cooperative relationships and advocacy, in order to enhance the influence of the campaigns and messages and to improve awareness among the targeted population;

Ensuring regular collaboration and coordination with the MSF medical team, to guarantee that the HP is part of medical activities and contribute to the medical objectives of the project
Supervising the IEC/HP team and their activities, in and outside health facilities, reporting difficulties and progress as well as adapting format and content when necessary. Planning and supervising the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, evaluation, development and internal communication) of the IEC / HP staff of the project. This will be done in close coordination with the HR department, the administration manager and project coordinator and according to MSF vision, values and procedures.

Participating in the monthly reports according to guidelines (SitReps, statistical reports, etc.)

 

MSF Section / Context Specific Accountabilities

Support activities related to Lassa Fever carried out by AE-FUTHA and MSF e.g patient support and decontamination.

Improve knowledge and practices on Lassa Fever in the communities and Ebonyi state by providing community sensitizations

Plan and carry out assessments and mappings of the culture and behavior of target groups to increase understanding of social practice related to Lassa Fever.

Improve the awareness of Lassa Fever and patient communication and interaction in AE-FUTHA and other health facilities.

Consider and develop targets, objectives, methods and goals related to wider project’s aims, as well as including socio-cultural realities, when developing HP resources and IEC campaigns

Participate actively in MSF emergency response to different disease outbreaks and other potential health hazards (internal displacement , Influx of wounded patient ) in the South East Regi n, Conducting an effective outbreak risk communication in aim to enable people at risk to make informed decisions to mitigate the effects of the hazard.

Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications
Education

Essential, University Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Social Communication, Health promotion or related studies.

A Master’s degree in public health and health promotion is an added advantage.
Experience:

Essential, working experience from related jobs (health promotion, people management, project coordination, social research).

Experience in planning trainings and network with internal and external partners.
Previous experience with an NGO or MSF is an asset.

Experience in qualitative research, data collection, and analysis is a plus.
Computer literacy essential (word and excel)

Language:

Fluent in English and Igbo, Hausa is a plus
Other abilities:

Commitment to MSF priniciples and values
Good team working skills and open-mindedness

People management/supervising skills
Awareness of and sensitivity to the local cultue, norms and practices

Knowledge of the context of Ebonyi state
