International project manager At Doctors of the World



JOB OBJECTIVES

The incumbent ensures the implementation and development of international projects of Doctors of the World (MdM) Canada under his responsibility. He/She manages projects, including the relationship with the financial backer, the preparation and drafting of project documents, the support and technical supervision of field teams and the monitoring of projects and associated budgets in collaboration with the financial analyst for international projects and the gender equality adviser. He/She leads the development of new projects and carries out field missions to monitor or prospect for projects and build the capacity of local teams.

POSITIONING IN THE TEAM

The position is under the authority of the DOI based at the headquarters of MdM Canada. He/She is also in close contact with the financial analyst for international projects and the gender equality advisor in Montreal. He/She also works in collaboration with the heads of other MdM chapters and supports the project teams in the field.

JOB ACTIVITIES

Achievement

Project management

  • Establishes and maintains an effective project tracking system to ensure project execution
  • Provides technical support and guidance to teams responsible for field projects
  • Ensures the coordination and final drafting of project documents under his responsibility (implementation plans, annual work plans, reprofiling notes, and reports)
  • Ensures a link with the heads of other MdM chapters, and if necessary with their field teams to ensure a common understanding of donor obligations and implementation strategies.
  • Creates and maintains project files under his responsibility
  • Performs monitoring and evaluation missions as well as technical support as needed

Project development

  • Leads the drafting of project proposals for MdM Canada, with the MdM Network or in partnership with other NGOs

Development of the DOI

  • Maintains and enriches knowledge and understanding of new development approaches and project management standards.
  • Leads the development and development of framework documents, learning and development documents, and standard operating procedures
  • Develops his technical knowledge related to his mandate and serves as a resource for this knowledge

Relations with beneficiaries, partners, donors and outreach

Project management

  • Maintain close relationships with donors and ensure diligent analysis and follow-up of reports to donors
  • Develops links and working relationships with MdM network managers and other partners as part of its mandate

Development of the DOI

  • Maintain regular contact with Canadian government officials, NGOs and potential donors in order to be informed on policies, strategies and funding opportunities
  • Participates in exchange and partnership meetings planned by donors or other tables or platforms related to its mandate
  • Represents the DOI with the CanWaCH network

Coordination and team management (employees and volunteers)

Project management

  • Support project managers in the field
  • Serves as a focal point for the head office team for the projects under his responsibility

Development of the DOI

  • Participates in the DOI’s strategic planning
  • Participate in regular DOI meetings
  • Supervise interns and/or volunteers under his responsibility

Financial management, purchasing and inventory management

Project management

  • In collaboration with the financial analyst person, monitors and analyzes the budgets associated with the projects

Project development

  • In collaboration with the financial analyst person, participates in the development of budgets for project proposals

POSITION CONDITIONS

REQUIRED PROFILE

Qualifications :

  • Graduate degree in management, public health, international development, social sciences or any other related training
  • At least 5 years of experience in a program management role in the field or in international cooperation
  • Experience in the field or in a voluntary cooperation program required
  • Authorization to work in Canada

Knowledge:

  • Good knowledge of donors in Canada and internationally
  • Mastery of results-based management
  • Good knowledge of budget management
  • Knowledge of international cooperation and humanitarian action actors

Expertise :

  • Maîtrise de Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Teams, Sharepoint)
  • Fluency in French and English (spoken and written); Spanish an asset
  • Excellent ability to develop project management and evaluation tools
  • Ability to develop results-based project proposals
  • Know how to write terms of reference and mission reports
  • Know how to manage and/or support project evaluations
