Who we are?

IDA is an international independent non-governmental organization providing medical and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflicts, natural disasters and epidemics regardless of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.
IDA was founded in 2012 by Syrian doctors from Aleppo in response to the healthcare and humanitarian crisis in Syria.

IDA Syria is the main healthcare provider in the Northern Aleppo/Syria area, working closely with 500,000 IDPs and 700,000 host communities through 20 healthcare facilities and other health and nutrition projects

During last year, IDA has provided 1.2 million services in Heath, Nutrition, WaSH and Camp Management

Responsibilities:

The ultimate objective of this position is to develop a strong MHPSS approach for IDA and provide technical consultation to IDA’s MHPSS teams towards a more advanced response to the psycho-social needs of vulnerable members in the community and people in need.
The Psychiatrist is expected to evaluate the overall technical aspects of IDA’s MHPSS project, including guiding, updating, and readjusting tools for PSS activities and psychological interventions, in coordination with the protection manager or and head of program. (Based in Gaziantep) through:

Specific responsibilities:

  • Primarily focusing on capacity building of MHPSS staff in IDA.
  • Providing technical guidance and support based on international best practices on advanced PSS.
  • Developing tools to ensure complex cases are identified and adequately supported whilst also outlining the limitations of support that can be provided.
  • Developing training materials and tools adapted for local contexts with a special focus on the Syrian context and successful implementing workshops capacity-building initiatives.
  • Working with staff on well-being and self-care paradigms.
  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the current MHPSS program for IDA team working at sites inside Syria and turkey.
  • Analyze the legal and operational context for beneficiaries and staff as it relates to MHPSS activities.
  • Assess gaps in the MHPSS program and propose practical solutions
  • Identify and develop a generic and core training manuals and guidelines for the MHPSS team
  • Meet regularly with the project coordinator to provide feedback related to monthly work (mentorship and coaching)
  • Focus on capacity building of and with IDA with regular travels and stays in the region if any.
  • Plan and carry out local and regional training and facilitate capacity-building activities.
  • Provide technical assistance and act as a knowledge broker in the areas of MHPSS program design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation in the field of psychosocial support
  • Develop tools and strategy framework for future activities
  • Develop/Identify minimum standards/quality benchmarks on MHPSS in emergency programs.
  • Develop IDA’s MHPSS IEC materials such as: messages and flipcharts according to needs
  • Develop a proposal related to the strategy which can be re-tooled and presented to donors including UN, donor governments in collaboration with program manager.
  • Collecting and documenting MHPSS activities in IDA documentary and lesson learned manual.
  • Develop new progress scales and M&E tools for MHPSS projects.
  • Any additional duties assigned by the supervisor
  • Assessment and evaluation report, including an analysis of the operational context in Syria and Turkey.
  • Training manuals and guidelines (Best Practice manual), MHPSS team (and possibly wider trainings which could be made available for the wider humanitarian and development community)
  • Strategy paper detailing future recommendations for future
  • Provide specific operational recommendations, including a detailed suggested work plan for program implementation
  • MHPSS messages, flipcharts, and IEC Materials
  • Monthly and quarterly reports

Qualifications:

  • Certificate of Medicine with a specilization of Psychiaric
  • Capacity to manage high-stress situations
  • Ability to multi-task and manage various project elements simultaneously

  • Experience working within a humanitarian context;
  • Experience in activities relating to specific sectors of humanitarian work.
  • Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is essential, both written and verbal.
  • Good IT skills, including Excel and Word.
